<p>The majority of software I have come across can be put into three categories:<p>The first is the 'de facto', which are widely adopted for various reasons, mostly marketing, market share, and marketing.<p>The second is the "alternative" options that serve as alternatives to the previously mentioned choices.<p>The remaining software falls into the third category, where the focus is on implementing improvements to the other two categories.</p>

<p>Fully autonomous cars would work well if they could all drive at 15mph without stop signs.<p>Easily enough to dodge, stop, limit damage while not requiring red lights or stop and go allowing passengers and pedestrians to travel.</p>

<p>In a practical sense the lock is an indicator of limited access.<p>The ability to gain entry is trivial given a few minutes and intent.<p>The locks in my house are there so the glass has to be broken. The glass is there to give me enough time to respond.<p>If someone is picking my lock they are involved in a hit, not theft.</p>
