Norton Commander set me on the path to building Gusco: https://intestinate.com/gusco/
NC tribute theme included.
Give it a shot if you wish Midnight Commander felt closer to Total Commander.
I remember when Total Commander (originally Windows Commander) arrived and immediately made NC on Windows obsolete.
Symantec really knew how to trash a good product.
While I haven't had to deal with Windows professionally for a very long time, I still miss the feel of Total Commander and DOS NC.

My file manager does MTP:
https://intestinate.com/gusco/
Install with homebrew to get the needed aft-mtp-cli dependency.
Xverb does indeed look nice!

https://intestinate.com/gusco/
TUI file manager with Bitwarden/SFTP/S3 support written in go.
Runs pretty much anywhere.
Current feature in the works is built-in audio player.
As someone who still likes to purchase and organize music in files and directories, I couldn't resist the itch to code a worthy competitor to Cubic Player :)

Just added a new theme to my TUI file manager Gusco https://gitlab.com/intestinate/gusco
Here are a few things I'm curious about:
Is direct manipulation of files and the file system becoming abstract for the younger generation?
Are Windows/Mac users no longer using file managers?
Is File Explorer/Finder good enough, even for a fairly technical crowd?

Very pleased with https://intestinate.com/gusco/
My orthodox file manager which now doubles as a Bitwarden client.
Feedback has been good so far, next up is proper vim modes/bindings.

I've been working as a sysadmin for 30 years, most of that time spent in the terminal.
Midnight Commander has been my main workhorse, but I often thought to myself,
"I wish I had a file manager that handles more like Total Commander in this SSH session."
I was also looking for an excuse to try Crush and get into the Charm/Bubble Tea ecosystem, all of which has been a pleasure to work with.
Gusco has now reached a state where it's good enough to be my daily driver.
Please grab a binary and let me know if it works for you, or what crucial features are missing.
Press F1 or 1 for a list of shortcuts and options.
