As someone living in a relegious country with religious parties in parliament, I see this as a slippery slope.

It's a way for religious groups to normalize forcing their lifestyle on the rest of society.

Religious mandates always tend to expand: what starts as "I don't care if you close your site on Sunday" can quickly escalate to "Why are you telling my wife and daughter how they should dress in public?"

I had a ZX Spectrum, and at some point my dad got me a C128.

I’ve been programming since 1984.

OP basically described my current role with scary precision.

I mostly review the AI’s code, fix the plan before it starts, and nudge it in the right direction.

Each new model version needs less nudging — planning, architecture, security, all of it.

There’s an upside.

There’s something addictive about thinking of something and having it materialize within an hour.

I can run faster and farther than I ever could before.

I’ve rediscovered that I just like building things — imagining them and watching them come alive — even if I’m not laying every brick myself anymore.

But the pace is brutal.

My gut tells me this window, where we still get to meaningfully participate in the process, is short.

That part is sad, and I do mourn it quite a bit.

If you think this is just hype, you’re doing it wrong.

Instead of obsessing with my rating on I just turned on Zen mode in lichees and hid all the numbers.

The game became fun again — Just "oh that was a cool tactic, let me try this weird opening, what happens if I sacrifice my knight for vibes?"

Turns out the rating was a distraction from the actual game.

Same energy as your point about "fucking around" being the point.

The elo was just making me miserable; removing it made me better anyway.

Of course he’s nervous - what else would you expect him to say?

If I’d pushed a little harder, would it have finally broken through?
