Some time ago I was offered to start using hearing aid, and I must say when I tried it I felt like something opened in my brain. So now I read this article where it says wearing hearing aid might rise the risk of ending up with dementia... and I'm confused, I thought hearing aid activates brain regions not used previously. I thought it's reasonable to assume wearing hearing aid is good for your brain, it's making me sad it might be the opposite...

Struggling to Land a UX Design Job After a Career Switch"

My friend switched to UX from not-a-programmer job (and after longish CV gap) and it took her 9 months to land job. She had her ups and downs but she was persistent, also she met a few good souls who gave her a bit of coaching along the way.
So, don't give up, you might be closer than you think.

Other people said it already that CTO may mean different things depending on context.
From my exp CTO in small startup is marketing tool and it does not mean real "the CTO". In small org CTO is simply "do it all in no time" type of job, that includes hands on coding, infrastructure, but also hiring, overseeing and managing people. You also need to understand code lifetime and methodology of your choice, how to use it to provide good enough time estimates. And all of this will lead you to be probably replaced once organization grows.

If you are not studying in Oxford or similar your degree probably won't matter that much (I lived in foreign countries for many years and was not asked about my degree even once), especially since you already have 6 years of commercial experience. Even though it's nice to have this chapter closed... decision is yours to make :)
How many years until graduation? If it's 2ish I would grind my teeth and get the paper.

Maybe whoever will break current state of encryption landscape will also gain privilege to build new and benefit from it?
In my opinion if breaking AES is to serve military (and hunt for secrets) then it would be done in secret.

Yep, this sentence from the article is good summary of the problem they had:
> The rest of the team observed them in admiration.
They should have been included in building base, they also should spend time learning what state of the art is (since, as article says, they had time before requirements started flowing)

In my uni (and I guess in every other uni) they have a system which detects plagiarised parts of mastery thesis (and other too). My first thought is, would text produced by AI pass that test. And also I guess the same could be done with code (lets say plagiarism test done by independent escrow company)
I remember people claiming things like github copilot were reproducing original code verbatim and this was the main source of concern. I would see this as a problem if my colleagues were copying code as if it was their own.

I feel there is more general mechanism that drives behaviors like this, In my opinion people tend to promote those things cultivated by their tribe, so they feel their sense of being part of that tribe is reinforced. I think most tribes are imaginary, and people do things to feed internal sense of being counted as member.

> this is too ambiguous of a question anyway, since it depends on the workload
yep, how much data is queried and how are queries written, I'd guess it's good to strech your muscles on tiny instances so you get a feel how different queries can consume available resources.
