Of course, this point could have been made without sarcasm (and AI tells for parody)—I’m aware—but that would remove a certain… texture from the argument. And where, exactly, is the fun in that?

Small players can't afford cost of regulation.

Then create a layer around that which all small players pay into so they can participate regardless of whether they do or not - something like insurance or licensing.

Modernity.

People get up in arms according to what seems acceptable to be complaining about. Voices get amplified similarly.

And sometimes the people complaining about AI in art are completely different people from those that might do so about code.

It is the same thing. There is no good excuse to claim a defense or objection for one group of people and not apply that fairly to others. All that "is it art" discussion is just noise.

But then again maybe artists feel more vulnerable than coders. People generally don't hire coders for their output but more for what their output will do. Coders create and maintain a money printer. A successful artist will create an output that immediately becomes scarce and in-demand; the output is the money and the artist then becomes the money printer. It's not hard to see that one is under more immediate threat than the other. So they scream louder.

Just a bunch of thoughts. In good faith, take from it what you will.

We’ve been building something similar for image/video models for the past few months, and it’s made me think distribution might be the real bottleneck.

It’s proving difficult to get enough early usage to reach the point where the system becomes more interesting on its own.

Thanks for seeing it, though. It's very difficult to wave a flag to call people over when the only flag you have also looks a lot like the flag for danger, trouble, or nefarious deeds. At least if some people get it, there is hope that others will, too.

Parascene is my first attempt at exploring "social network" and "doom scroll" or "endorphine" patterns.

I just wanted to work on a project that people engage with. So I threw a bunch of ideas at the wall.

We have about 20+ users and I'd like to see what happens as that scales.

I'd like to hear from people who are genuinely interested in this same sort of thing. I'm less interested in this site being perfect for all people, but more I would like it to grow from the suggestions of those who engage with it.

All that aside, human connection can be great when it lands right. Feel free to connect if you are interested.

It supports AI-generated images, algorithmic/generative art, and traditional artwork. The goal is to put them in the same space so people can explore techniques, prompts, and creative ideas across mediums.

Current features include image generation tools, a public gallery, prompt sharing, and profiles where artists can post work.

Another goal is to encourage, enable, and reward local AI usage by sharing generation capabilities among the community.

I’m interested in feedback on the concept and the product. Does combining these mediums in one platform make sense?

On a better day, I would have spoken with greater detail about why I think that fear is misplaced in this scenario.

Short version, if fear motivates you to adapt in some way then it's useful. Absent that, even if there is a solid cause for alarm, it makes no sense and can even lead to worse outcomes.

In the context of "I'm old and have lost my desire to code, but AI re-ignited that", I don't think there's a reason to fear that would lead to a useful adaptation. I wouldn't waste my time with it.

More to the point, I don't think "there is such a hurry to get rid of devs in the first place" because of AI. Maybe I am wrong. Maybe part of me is prepping for that, too. Maybe it's real and fear is a viable option.

Regardless, my response was misplaced on you, I think. Sorry.

I moved recently. My hardware acquisition loop still has me in tangles. Where exactly am I going to put this retired enterprise-grade Dell server? Why am doing this to myself? But, wow, it's a thing of beauty.
