WRT government data centers, there is certainly precedent for independent researchers getting HPC time on systems owned by US national labs, research institutions, universities, and then publishing their results as part of the public good.
One would question why this hasn't already happened as the rule and as opposed to the proliferation of private data centers. However, I am sure the answers are plain and perhaps saddening to us all.

> "The new list will provide chaplains with clear, readily available information that will better enable them to anticipate the religious support needs [...]"
Emphasis mine. In other words, "our master's degree level educated chaplains are confused by too long of a list".
We know what you are really doing and would appreciate more effort in these BS memos.

Heathen is yet another term to describe Germanic paganism which has a similar etymology as the Latin originated word "pagan"[1]. It describes the people "of the heath"[2] — the rural folk who were the last to change their beliefs (as opposed to the city folk following the latest trends). English is unique among Germanic languages for preferring non-native vocabulary but the cognate of "heathen" is extant in every other Germanic language to describe pre-Christian belief. Among modern reconstructionists there is no consensus for a term to describe a belief system that never had a name (because prior to Christianity, it didn't need one).
That it is also a Christian pejorative term is irrelevant to the former DoD list.
[1]: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/paganus
[2]: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/heathen#English

On the contrary I would expect that the most immediate effect is the impossibility of commissioning chaplains for any of the 180 faiths removed from the list. Good luck with that if you're a chaplain candidate who is an ordained minister of "Other".
No doubt there are other concrete effects that are buried in reams of DoD policy.
However, the message being sent is far clearer. Expect that the goal is to pare down the current list even further in due time.

> I’m super on board with providing a universal spiritual/mental health space regardless of your affiliation.
This is what was happening in the Army's Chaplain Corps[1] prior to this administration: Seeking to emphasize and credential Chaplains as mental health specialists in an organization with a consistent track record of personnel with pervasive mental health problems.
It seems that has all been scrapped and we're going to fix mental health problems with "good ol' religion".
[1]: I can't speak for the other services but probably the same.

It was likely the kind of poverty where they never had any money, always had debt, but never were in any danger of starvation due to their status. It was just enough to keep them from rebellion but a lot of personal trouble to keep them from too much personal ambition as well.

Absolutely, and this is also a big deal for longevity of your purchase. I have an iMac from 2012 and it's a beautiful piece of reliable hardware, with a beautiful screen. However, the software is stuck on some version of macOS from years ago and so more and more applications are refusing to install. It's on life support with Firefox ESR and MacPorts (just recently — was on Homebrew). And it works fine for browsing and some light FOSS gaming. Not if Apple had their way though! They think it ought to be in the dump and I should have bought something else by now.
Well, I have a Framework 13 also, running Linux, and despite the hardware being from 2022, it's all current software. And it will continue to be, practically as long as I wish it.
So, yes, if we want to talk about value (like the author of the article), where is the value when some capricious corporation decides when you are done with your computer?

The "-" character appears pretty frequently in song/album titles, maybe even artist names. There could be some sense in not using it as a substitute for space in this context.

I would like to see some option to offset the scrobbling times for privacy. I've cooled on Last.fm in recent years because I've realized that it's a very good, public indicator of when I'm at my desk. Self hosted may be the way forward but maybe someone wants the best of both worlds.
Yes, I've become paranoid in my old age.

This is better so you think about the commands that you're pasting into your terminal before you do it, rather than just one blob of who-knows-what.
However, what I don't understand is why there isn't just a single Dockerfile that does it all. `docker build` is step 4 or something.

That MSG works for a Captain or a Lieutenant. If said MSG is good, there might be a future of advising a commanding officer on uniforms and length of grass at increasingly higher echelons. The rank is not newsworthy.
