it's already working really well on my iOS 13 iPhone SE. the safari on this version struggles to render any 'modern' website these days, this browser works perfectly and I can even use uBlock Origin with it.

awesome! hopefully T61 can also get some support soon..
these machines are amazing, but sadly they're showing signs of age these days. mine's already kinda unusable due to dim CCFL backlight and fan grinding noise.

i don't think it's really "far behind", it just can't run on hardwares that require manufacturer keys (e.g. intel bootguard)
afaik all modern x86 chromebooks ship with coreboot based firmware

everything except graphics driver would probably actually work with 98SE..
Win2000 or WinXP would be a better choice due to numerous reasons though. Win2K with an SSD is absolutely going to fly on that thing.

most linux/bsd you can throw at it would just work fine. i personally like tinycore linux and porteus linux, they unpack the rootfs to ram so overall interaction with the system feels insanely quick on very underpowered systems with HDDs.

hardware support is provided by the linux kernel, it should be fine. if there's issues one could just switch kernels..
8gb is plenty. i've ran tinycore on machines with 512MB or less

maybe try a linux distro like tinycore or porteus? it puts the rootfs in ram so things run insanely fast, and sync changes to disk before shutdown

for a short time i had warcprox sitting behind my firefox and auto feeding its output to pywb, it seemed to work but i had connections failing randomly after having warcprox running for more than a few hours~days. not sure if it's an issue with pywb or warcprox but there were some urls missing that i did browse on firefox, and many dynamic pages couldn't be replayed at all.
