> I'm just waiting for some corporate IP law firm to learn about Huggingface.
Presumably they already know. The issue is that IP law firms are tiny compared to the trillions of capital pouring into "AI". And if you believe the USA is a capitalist country where the side with deeper pockets win, you know you're not going to win against the trillionaires.

Jury's still out whether they refuse to do that.
Currently it's just that they can't immediately implement those checks. They'd need some biometric check on API calls and some magical way to prevent the authenticated persons from reselling the service to unauthorized people.

GP's argument is essentially this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evil_demon
Perhaps you might think this is bullshit because *obviously* this world is real and not an illusion and there is *obviously* no evil demon to deceive us into thinking the Earth is spherical instead of flat.
And yes this is what philosophers do. Nobody here is arguing that such demon exists and is actually deceiving us, but since you've accepted you can't prove god doesn't exist (maybe mis-step for you since you're probably not the philosopher type), well, can you prove such demon doesn't exist? Seems to me the same thing.

Don't know why you're downvoted so much, but your observation is spot on.
This is essentially Descartes evil demon issue. If you can't disprove that an evil demon (with god-level powers) is deceiving you at everything you perceive, then how are you going to be sure about anything? (including that the Earth is not flat?)
It has always been a difficult philosophical issue about how much we can trust reality itself.

I have no idea why anyone (especially those here) would be dismissive of genAI from ChatGPT(2022) onwards.
It was obviously a new tech, and was obviously good enough that more resources would be invested to improve it, and it really amazes me how tech enthusiasts would just outright dismiss these early iterations of genAI tech.
I personally was fascinated by the developments and was grateful to get to directly watch history unfold.
I'm still unsure whether the tech would be a "net positive" for the world, but shouldn't prevent me from recognizing its power.

It might reflect a prejudice of modern human society to think more highly of people who are intelligent, and think less of people who we deem stupid.
I'd say AI should not by default gain any social status as human-equivalent even if they become (in whatever regard) more intelligent than humans. But that would require us to drop the notion that intelligence ~= respectability/status/ability to have a full subjective experience.
Most of these kind of pseudo-philosophical controversies actually tell more about the issues with humanity than the new tech/stuff...

My point is that the scientific establishment is already basically like those boards that can limit your ability to do research unless you have a license.
The "license" is a PhD (from a reputable institution) and publications in a select list of high profile journals.
I'm very curious why you'd think otherwise.

I think you misunderstand. You think blue zones are "thoroughly debunked". And it might be even true that blue zones aren't real.
But I am not seeing any evidence that the general public is aware of this. And thus we need more of the articles "asking" this question so that more people are aware of the issues on it.
FYI, the article you linked basically tells the same story as the topical article. Are you too lazy to read it before commenting?

If you implement a game, people would play the game. (which is better than if they ignored it)
I would have thought that software engineers, of all people, would understand that one's intention and what they actually implemented in a system can be two different things, and careful effort must be expended to properly implement it, and that "good intentions" alone is not sufficient.

Well, to put it precisely, an omniscient being would theoretically be capable of knowing today's state of the law with probabilities assigned to the results.
I'm serious. Pick any non-trivial issues of law, ask a world leading expert, and you'd very quickly hear the word "probably" somewhere. Less often than "it depends", but you'll hear those words often nonetheless.
If that's "knowable" to you, I guess it's knowable.
