I agree with you. Cats outdoors are a nightmare to local species. This super predator kills everything and is already responsible for the disappearance of so many species of birds lizards and other mice. I do love cats too but they have not their place outdoors, it’s like releasing an atomic bomb on local ecosystems. Their only place outdoors should be where they originated from where food is scarce

If only people had better alternatives to car ownership, such as reliable, fast public transport, e-bikes, nearby shops, working from home etc… I would bet that car ownership would not be necessary for 80% of the current car-owners population. And maybe depreciation would not be that of a concern?

There are cheaper solutions than japanese toilet, bidet or handhelds
- using a bottle of water, you just need a good capacity, and need to refill before or after the deed. Aim at your anus and stretch your asscheeks with your other hand and do circle and robbing on your skin while emptying the water with the hand holding the bottle. It is a bit technical the first time, a bit disgusting but fecal mater is 100% washable so your hands and anus will be all clean and your anus will thank you for the rest of the day. But you need enough capacity for the water. You can also use soap and do two round while emptying each halves of the bottle. First round remove all fecal, then soap (use a gentle soap!) then empty the remaining of the bottle. You don’t really need soap though because the results with water only is already infinitely better than with toilet paper. You can use the toilet paper to dry your skin or use a small toilet exclusively allocated for this usage
- if you are home take a brief cat shower and aim exclusively the anus. A bit more cumbersome because you need to remove your clothes and shoes if you wear them

Maybe this article could be improved by adding “Domain/Business knowledge” and understanding what the business and product actually do. It doesn’t matter if you are a good developer if you are not able to provide solutions because you lack domain knowledge. Depending on the domain it can take quite some time to be a reference

I think everyone should pay for Youtube Premium, there should be no free tiers. And we should ban sponsorship too, a creator should be banned if the content is sponsored. It lowers the quality of the content, the user experience and, worse imo, introduces biasis and conflict of interests. Also mandatoring a paid plan could help get rid of all those scam bots.
Also creators could get paid more if everyone was a Premium user.
There is no free lunch. At some point you have to pay people for their work. Not paying is slavery. Either pay with your attention span or pay with money to get an adless experience.
The Premium plan gives you more features (and a music streaming that would cost you 10$ in and of itself if you were to use another music streaming service).
I am glad Youtube takes this issue seriously.

I still don't consider myself a veteran but I saw the web evolves from 2010 up til now. And imho we took a wrong direction. Web apps and pages have become so bloated and complex that's crazy.
I'm just starting to recover from my previous work. I had to maintain migrate and add features to a legacy system (built in 2017) which had initially a GraphQL api and a SPA, but that was later split in 12 microservices (with cycling dependencies because hey why not) and 3 Big react applications, all of that in Javascript + Typescript (added later with all the gradual typing stuff that makes you think that your code is correct).
All of that to serve 300 monthly users between 35 and 50 years old, who just cared about filling forms here and then and have some charts over data. 0 rocket science.
So far I remember history going like this:
- 2010 Clean SSR with rock solid boring technologies and some vanilla JS where it made sense, I remember page load where crazy fast and you could not feel the need for an SPA.
- 2012 NodeJS arrives. It came to save us from slow blocking IO apparently (??)
- 2016 React arrives. It came to save us from boring old SSR apps
- 2017 All React + SPA frameworks (in house often)
- 2017+ Someone has the brillant idea to do SSR with React. "It's a revolution"
- 2017 GraphQL arrives. You are saved.
- 2020 Nextjs arrives. You can now do static generation for SEO and SSR and apis ! That's great. Thank you Next !
- 2022 Someone wants now to do Server Component that will make your page load going insanely fast (which we already did in 2010 when we carefully loaded vanilla JS at the time)
I learned a bit of ASP.net core recently, and I think that boring razor pages are still relevant.
I remember my first lead in 2010 telling me that ORMs and SPA where completely overrated. I didn't agree with him at that time. Now 12 years later I think he might have been correct.
I'm not saying SPA have not their place. Some apps can't do without it. I'm saying that we are victims of "hype driven development" which involve having some trendy hashtags in your resume and convince your manager that you have seen an incredible new tech that will make the business incredibly wealthy.
Except it does not and you end up with a legacy system that nobody wants to maintain because too complex.
Maybe like Jonathan Blow stated in one of his videos, we make a confusion between going forward and progress.
Now all the new kids learn React in some boot camp or online but have no idea how to implement a map function. And I feel old and grumpy. And tired by all this.

This blog post doesn't seem right to me. In the first part it says that the project is not an individual project anymore but the work of many. He then worries about the stability and maintenance of the project overtime in the long run. So as a result he makes the choice to create a language for fun to adress this issue instead of relying on an already existing stable and mature language. I fear that this decision will have the opposite desired effect on maintenability and contributions... I would have loved to see him being a little bit more open to other languages like Haxe, or D or go or any other language already stable and well maintened. It also impact the work of other contributors... But we will see how it plays out !

Every single bitcoiner I know keeps selling me a world where everyone will be free from central banks, free from "the banking system"(tm), free from taxation, free from states.
They buy bitcoin to destroy the central banks, the states. The corrupted ones. They are on a crusade and at the top of this very new world : them.
One day they will dominate the society. We poor ant-sheeps will continue to struggle while they golden eagles will have almost unlimited satoshis in their wallet that they will have earned so hard by pressing some buttons on a web app.
So yeah I somehow like to see their dreams taste a dose of reality. Bitcoin is a shitcoin too despite them chanting otherwise. And don't get me started on NFTs or other cryptos...
