Because they almost certainly have fake tip-offs, they’re not going to ignore those.

I don’t deal with ffmpeg or C/asm, but there are certainly some 4gl applications that a random patch may cause more problems than it solves. I imagine many researchers would be in that box.

My country has online anonymous tips online, and pay phones.
I don’t think caller id blocking would work with the police, they almost certainly have the ability to unmask your number if they want.

What valid purpose does hidden numbers have? Government departments in my country hide their caller ID.
I find that abusive on its own but let’s not forget about the fact that now you have victims of domestic violence being forced to answer hidden numbers in case it’s welfare, or the cops, or their abusive spouse.

That’s not really my point. My point is some libraries are easily replaced and others are massive, complex and need ongoing support.
By the same logic, he could avoid system dependencies by writing his own OS. But it obviously doesn’t scale.
I’m all for an anti-library ethos, as long as the pros and cons are carefully considered and wheels are only reinvented when the cost/risk ratio is right.

It was an example that’s not particularly bound to me. I use a cheap burner android for shitware smarthome apps I need to setup devices before they get adopted by Home Assistant - if I cared about specifically ID association with gapps, I’d probably use my burner for that too.
But I’m also under no illusion that Google has better analytics sources.
