Resilvering operations with large capacity data drives take a ridiculously long time to complete. A double disk failure in a volume can result in a loss of the LUN. Populating a volume with drives from the same supplier with matching batch numbers can result in correlated failures not independent from each other. You have to ask yourself - do you feel lucky?

Does anyone recall the Colonial Pipeline outage? They had their IT and OT networks segregated but without billing capacity nothing else mattered. You didn’t expect them to let the petrol flow for free, didja? All that it takes is for a “jump box” that spans or bridges supposedly segregated networks to be p0wned to permit compromise of the soft and chewy center.

A switch differs from a hub, a patch panel differs from a hub. Hopefully you haven’t touched one since affordable fast Ethernet switches hit the consumer market.

A real router has no radio. It has no SSID. It routes traffic. It applies a set of ACLs to determine if traffic should be forwarded. That’s it. No switching. No WiFi. Just routing. If routes traffic on the wire.
