This story and the guy curing his dogs cancer leads me to believe what's missing is a jurisdiction that allows people with money to do whatever experiments they want/need to move medicine forward.

I am wondering why no one is using the wonderful LLM coding tools to cut branches of open source apps rewriting them for consistent UI. From my experience with them so far this is a task that they would be really good at especially if the underlying codebase has decent test coverage.

I think whatever "linguists" did this "research" must be undergraduate internet searchers. For example in Russian the words "fignya/fignyushka" or the less polite "huynya/huynyushka" are used in a very similar way. They are a noun representing an abstract "thing" that the listener would understand from context.

they "sold it" because they owed a lot of money to svb. silicon valley does not understand debt. this is one of the reasons hardware is hard. actually making stuff is hard and expensive.

there are some concrete examples of this though. we see the visible spectrum, a particular subset of EM spectrum that's a pretty good enough abstraction to get around in the world, it's a heuristic for the spectrum that's "good enough". we hear a subset of the audio spectrum, it's "good enough". etc etc...

Ask HN: I spent 1.5 hours on the phone with Dell today trying to get a downgrade from windows 8 to windows 7 for 4 comouters we bought for our call center today because windows 8 sucks. but that is not the problem. I talked to 4 different people in customer service and tech support all on one long phone call and they presented me with policy based responses that when i asked them if they would think them reasonable I got a unanimous answer that they would not but that was the policy. does this bother anyone else? how can it be done better? what about on a large scale?
