Data brokers are a legal surveillance loophole: Police can simply buy your private data from commercial data brokers—no warrant, no court order, no oversight. This massive, unregulated market lets agencies sidestep every traditional privacy protection. “Super warrants” exist for real-time content: If cops want to intercept your messages as they’re sent, they must meet the highest legal bar—probable cause, exhaustion of alternatives, and strict minimization rules. This requirement is stricter than for stored data, yet most users have never heard of it. Gag orders silence providers—and you: Law enforcement can force tech companies to keep data requests secret, blocking them from notifying you. These open-ended non-disclosure orders erode First Amendment rights and hide the true scale of surveillance from public view.

it's interesting that RNA modifications are more diverse than DNA and we are just starting to develop ways to discover them. Nanopore sequencing technology from Oxford Nanopore Technology is the first technology that can sequence native RNA and their modifications. Have you explored this area?

I've aspired to become a doctor since I was a boy, I have managed to carve out a unique career out of medicine and I get to work at home and I have a lot of support, I spend hours working on what I love. I work with doctors who tell me I would make a great doctor. I think there is just too much resistance to getting into medical school.

I am most passionate about death today. Seeing my father, and shortly after my partner after 22 years of marriage die was a shock. I am trying to prepare myself for the moment when I close my eyes for the last time. Thinking about those who are going through it now and those who are going to go through it between now and when my time is up. What can I do better, how can I make this world better.
