<p>Makes sense why they branded these devices as Googlebooks instead of Chromebooks, so the user gets the impression that getting updates is one of the different things among many.<p>My point is that even though Chromebooks are a 15-year brand, there's no guarantee a Chromebook bought today will support the reconstructed OS successor to ChromeOS coming out in the next 2-3 years.</p>

<p>there's not enough appeal with the investors and stock holders.<p>they're going to try to make everything you have a subscription, starting with the homes you might try to buy. they don't even live here, but there's no laws stopping them, because your representatives personally benefit from letting things go for certain corporations/people (the same thing after the Citizens United decision)</p>

<p>From a risk assessment standpoint, I’ve seen my Time Machine backups corrupted much more frequently than I’ve experienced drive failure. Happened with both my Time Capsule and then my Synology RAID.<p>It’s a “nice to have” automatic backup, but not a primary backup destination for me.</p>

<p>As an aside, what new cars don’t include location tracking?<p>My experience is they all have satellite connections and require some level of telemetry. My car throws a persistent check engine light and error message on the radio if you disconnect the telematics control unit.</p>
