This only works well if you are creating sub agents with clean contexts for each task. If you constantly are switching models part way through some work then the whole session needs to be replayed each switch. You lose all the benefits of the context cache.

CE is all about self certification. The lab testing gives you the confidence to do this.

It can be expensive - but Chinese test labs are very affordable and do a really professional job.

There is now quite a good EU based service - https://early.smander.com/ I used them to get some advice early on (disclaimer, I know the founder).

This has been happening for a long time - more than 10 years ago there was a movement away from having QA.

Partly it was about continuous delivery - you can’t push out to production instantly if you have people doing QA.

Partly it was - developers should be responsible for the quality of what they produce.

And it was also trendy to say - I’ve just got rid of our QA team - we don’t need them.

Early on in my career I wrote a highly critical email - I asked a coworker for his opinion before I sent.

He said “there’s just one thing that would improve this” and hit the delete button.

That intervention saved me, and everyone I was working with, from a lot of unnecessary stress.

Venting is great - get it out of your system. Then take a deep breath, go for a walk, and then decide what to do.

This can still happen a lot for normal job roles.

I have a candidate that I want to hire (say a recommendation, a referral, or someone I just want to give a job to) my internal processes may mandate that the job needs to be “advertised”.

So it gets advertised - and what do you know - the only applicant that fits the bill is this one person…

Oh yes - definitely the git kind of hook. Also, I always forget that there’s a pre-push hook as well. So you don’t need to do things every commit.

But then you could just be storing up a lot of problems…

A lot of people will just add as many tools as they can think of. I don’t think it’s obvious that this costs money.

Rather than bake that into the prompt - wouldn’t it be better to just set up a pre commit hook that runs tests and linting?

gource seems to be on of those tools that people forget about. I don’t know if it’s the name or just simply that it’s the kind of thing you run once and think “that’s nice - what do I do with it?”. It’s not something you run regularly so it slowly disappears from memory.

There’s a whole bunch of hidden features that no one seems to be aware of.

Preview has pretty good background removal.

I was recently doing some work - reasonably repetitive and tedious.

I asked Claude to spin up a bunch of agents to do it and after a bit of discussion we ended up writing a bunch of deterministic scripts that ran off the data collated by some “research” agents.

It took a few pilot loops of the process to nail it down, but separating the process into “data collection” and “process the data” has pretty much eliminated the AI step. Once the data has been collected from the random sources and normalised into something sensible we rarely have to do it again.

Even that process has been largely automated, scripts that deterministically scrape data, the AI is only needed for the very difficult parts that need some decisions or interpretation.

Getting the AI to write tools for itself is a great way to work.
