Building projects, especially larger ones, has not been solely about writing code. I don't see how anything you are saying is a bad thing at all. Drive-by PRs and similar practices are bad. A high barrier is a feature, not a bug.

Always in agreement to such initiatives. I do think a barrier to adoption is the space of possibilities is quite large and generally not well organized around a specific proposal or mandate, so opposition to these initiatives can pick them apart of details. Especially since opposition is usually much more engaged in local governance.

It's somewhat complicated to understand, but I think this is an opportunity for strong communicators to present to a public that is much more receptive toward these ideas.

This is such awild thing to say. What do you think the point of society is? Also, there is no way you "Totally agree" if at the same time you are saying this.

Also if you understand the cost of incarceration and the negative social ills of poverty, then being against social programs, broadly, makes no sense.

Yeah I am really not speaking in terms of a risk for all end users, just those who may rely on turso as a company. To assume a startup, no matter how well funded, will survive is naive. There are historically a lot of issues with this business model. This is not a certain failure, but we cannot ignore the challenges companies in a similar space have faced.

I don't understand you reply here. Database startups have always had the consistent issue of cloud providers providing managed solutions without contributing back. It is why many moved to or use the AGPLv3 and why there was the whole SSPL controversy in the first place. Running a successful open source database startup is not trivial. None of this applies to SQLite.

Think of all the lessons you have learned in life, and think of all the ways in which you haven't followed them to a tee. Now multiple that by the size of your organization. Don't overstress over things like this, it will waste your time and energy. Learn what you can improve and make attempts at what is unknown to you. Try continuously.

I am personally not a very big fan of Spotify for a variety of reasons, I would not be against them losing this lawsuit. Especially with their moves toward AI, they seem to have very little respect for this media they claim to be defending.

The MIT licensing makes this even less trustworthy. I can image a major cloud or fly.io just proprietary forking them as a service, as cloud providers have done for years.

I notice the biggest issue with these types of organizational visions is that if you are not in fairly high leadership, it doesn't go very far. You really need buy-in and nearly everyone has an opinion on this type of stuff, so you end up competing on "the best way to not waste people's time."

Luckily if you lead a team, something like a standup, you basically have full control over, but I think the bigger issue is that orgs don't respect team leadership very much and end up stepping over systems like this for a variety of really uncoordinated reasons.

I can't be the only one tired of the consistent relitigation of OpenAI corporate structure and funding, because like a lot of things with AI, generally it doesn't matter who you think is legally correct. We are in an environment in which non of this is actually being scrutinized under it's legal merit, but rather, personal and geopolitical.

But, generally I assume the idea is about building a case for when the dust settles, rather than looking for something to happen now.

Would you just be... subsidizing low volume users? I am saying this isn't like a new problem in the grand scheme of things. hopefully I am not being too negative, do you have a site or something to learn more? It's not clear how you can have better token economics to provide me or someone else better token economics, rather than just burning more money lol.

Very very true, never thought about orgs like that. However, I don't think someone should use this like a bandaid like that. If the idea is that you want to have a domain associated with a service, then organizationally you probably need to have systems in place to make that easier.

Not clear what you are pitching, if you don't control the infrastructure or have a major contract, how exactly are you lowering or stabilizing costs. Especially if you are not chasing the newest model, at this point token economics is essentially a commodity. Commodity pricing is not a engineering problem, it is a financing problem.

I just use Thunderbird or Emacs, for RSS, I do not have a sophisticated setup. I live in a big city, so I stay up to date by continually engaging with friends and colleagues in-person. One person can only see so much, twelve can see a lot more.
