Indeed. When I was just starting every blog and tweet screamed micro-management sucks. It does if the manager does this all the time. But sometimes it is extremely important and prevents disasters.
I guess best managers just develop the hunch and know when to do this and when to ask engineers for smallest details to potentially develop different solutions. You have to be technical enough to do this

Support systems often do this - they stream message and agents already see what you are typing. I know a few banking apps that do this.

This is great. I thought about a different model even before plasticlist: make a subscription and test various products, but people will have a number of upvotes based on their sub streak. They vote for food to test, and then you show results to everyone subbed. Kind of like what examined does, but they do deep dives into medical topics for subs. I think this model will work better than the one you currently have. Awesome project anyways!
It is extremely weird to me that countries don't do that on taxpayers money and show the results publicly, this is what they should do.

I suppose there are Corsi–Rosenthal box designs out there for 3d printing. We don't have filters like this here, otherwise I'd make such a diy purifier instead of buying one

I use a different air purifier, a pretty basic xiaomi one. There are two downsides: it is quite big (I don't mind really) and it can be loud at a high speed.
I host movie nights with friends and sometimes someone might even smoke in the room, air purifier clears the air quite fast and there absolutely are no odors left. So yeah you can and if you solder or 3d print often, I'd suggest to get one, they don't cost much.
I'm not allergic and air here is basically always perfect - 1-5 ppm, but I still love it. It does filter out allergens and people allergic to pets find it easier to breathe (I have a dog). It also lowers amount of dust a bit, and I have an automation to run it on full speed when robot vacuums floors, I think it might help filter some stuff out.
I wish there'd be a way to put activated carbon packs inside somehow, because I'd love to change it more often than the full filter.

I agree and already got two minipcs I selfhost a lot of stuff now. I just now realized it is basically the future Gabe Newell predicted and wanted to make with Steam Machines [1], but he was wrong by targeting gamers and a little too early (perhaps?). Maybe they will succeed precisely because of this revolution.
I got soooo tired setting up a gaming system for parties on my projector. There are so many various problems and tweaks, gamepads disconnecting if you put a hand between the gamepad and the pc/playstation etc. BSODs on windows, driver problems and stupid obscure things varying from pc to pc. I want plug and play, but consoles have their own problems and limitations. I am too old to debug this stuff to play a game for so little time, I would rather not. I didn't really believe in steam machines at the time, but now I sort of do, especially with game streaming and local LLMs that might be hosted there now.
[1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steam_Machine_(computer)

I successfully removed this coating from my razer mouse using alcohol, it was pretty easy to do. The coating felt good when I unboxed the mouse, but yeah it turned into this chewed gum mess, now it's just plastic which is ok.
Also turned out that disassembling the mouse was easy, so you probably might just swap the wheel entirely.

I wonder if that's actually illegal, because it feels very close to false ads etc. It seems legal, but I think courts would side with customers.
As if google would say that yes, emails are $5/mo, but there's actually a limit on number of emails daily, and also number of characters in the email. It just feels so illegal to nerf a product that much.
Same with AI companies changing routing and making models dumber from time to time.

Someone suggested they were used to estimate distance which might be true since some modern guns like mp5 have rotating drum sights of same principle.
Another good suggestion was that it was used for knitting, there was a very cool video of this on YouTube somewhere.
And the last I like is it’s just a game.
I think it was one of the earliest multi-tools and all of these were what it was used for

I agree to some level, but crypto and NFTs also have value without network effects present.
You could even argue that without network effects AI is also very limited: way less users -> way worse models. It took OpenAI to commit capital first to pull this off.
The point is I think comparing these areas (and other tech) is still interesting and worthy.

I think it does. Startups, VCs and media still provoke hype trains. People cherry pick and extrapolate everything in AI as well.

Crypto and NFT situation happened because of our society, media and vc/startup landscape who hype things up a lot for their own reasons. We treat massive technologies as new brands of bottled water. Or, actually, as a new hype toy as fidget spinners or pop it toys. This tech is massively more complex and you have to invest time to learn about its abilities, limitations and potential developments. Almost nobody actually does this, it's easier to follow hype train and put money into something that grows up and looks cool without obvious cons. Crypto is cool for some stuff. On the other hand, where's your Stepn (and move to earn in general), decentraland cities, Apes that will make a multimedia universe? Where's "you'll be paying using crypto for everything"?
Same for LLMs and AI: it is awesome for some things and absolutely sucks for other things. Curiously tho, it feels like UX was solved by making chats, but it actually still sucks enormously, as with crypto. It is mostly sufficient for doing basic stuff. It is difficult to predict where we'll land on the curve of difficult (or expensive) vs abilities. I'd bet AI will get way more capable, but even now you can't really deny its usefulness.
