Not to mention the folks that support it dealing with the front line grunt work being paid peanuts by comparison to the sales bonuses.

Yes but it's fairly recent that cars are receiving software updates on their own. Usually if there was an update, it would be from a recall that would necessitate going to a dealer to apply the changes, not something that is auto-downloaded and applied without the owner's awareness.

I don't know for sure but it may be regional. In my area, they always have a $5 off $20 deal that makes things slightly more palatable but even still, it's just bringing the prices back to what they really should be as others have said. I've uninstalled the app and completely stop going there entirely, the quality (not that it was ever great to be clear) is pretty terrible and there are so many better local places with way better value.

Honestly, go for it! I started my own blog up and write everything myself, all the way down to the basic HTML and CSS. I don't use any frameworks or anything, whatever is there is just mine. Benefit is I'm not locked in to any one platform and migration is a piece of cake. Obviously won't work for everyone but I don't need much to put some words out there, but at least I can say it's all mine.

I recently signed up for an annual subscription to Kagi on their Starter plan and I couldn't agree more. Search quality with them has been great so far, and I realize their small web search and exploration features too.
I've been slowly working to find other paid services as alternatives to the free ones that I'm currently using (next big one was shifting away from Gmail and onto a personal domain for mail using Fastmail). Migrated away from Notion and using Obsidian with Syncthing running on my unRAID server at home. Generally just trying to find alternatives that aren't in the data mining and user lock in sphere and more about maintaining a positive user experience without taking advantage of their users and their data.

This is what I use, and I also have Readrops on my phone that syncs back to my FreshRSS instance. Makes it really convenient to have a lightweight reading app where I can submit new feeds to it and have it sync back to the server.
