If I have the choice of being tracked by my government or a private profit driven company I’ll choose the former any day.
The company will sell all data to my government anyway if prompted.
Of course no tracking at all is the best option and I’m a huge proponent of cash - but it’s not always practical.

The alternatives still exist, there is just less and less reason to use them because they charge extra fees.

Idk it’s just my experience from having worked in both roles 5+ years.
YMMV
Of course all roles have aspects that suck. But for me FTE is so much less stressful than sales - but I make less money. alas

No I was confused that they wouldn’t count the browser users when there is no good reason to when they try to eval their user base? MAU commonly includes web users as well.
I blame TechCrunch for creating a website that I can’t read but yea fair criticism I didn’t read the article.
I didn’t question GP i asked if they knew why web users aren’t counted.
Do they explain in the article why they would only count mobile users as MAU?

Technical sales and customer growth also don’t get the cut of sales that usually the actual sales reps do.
In general i think sales reps make more money overall but have a much more stressful job and can get axed whenever they underperform for a quarter etc

Yea we also handled it ourselves the first couple years but it was so painful. Literally the same thing you described happened - as well spending weeks+ how we need to file it as tax when we pay bounty to someone in Pakistan etc.

This and the pre-triage are the only reasons we even use a bug bounty platform.
If paying out bounties was easy I would do it all via email; but as you said it’s almost impossible to do (unless you are maybe bigcorp and have a team just for that)

The “just choose to avoid” (because they are stupid and evil?) is very reductive.
I work at an open source company and we always avoided using APGL for many complex legal reasons - most of our user base would use something else if we were to switch license to APGL.
May they all heard too much FUD or are plain stupid but imo the reason is more complex

100% and I think this is echoed across the thread.
It does apply to many many things that are uncomfortable/hard.
You somehow have to power through the part where you suck a lot and don’t worry about it.
Mastering that is a huge advantage in life

I’m getting a lot of small stuff done that I wouldn’t have touched previously. It’s a little bit nicer for users but I would say the difference is marginal

Consequently 99% of software written is to make it easier to buy stuff (at least in web dev).
They say the internet is for porn but it’s really to sell/buy stuff
Edit: even with LLMs the “killer” application is to make it easier to buy things xD
