Fair enough, I'll add some nuance. The government that I am a citizen of is a special case of a non-human entity, they do have entitlement to my property (which includes my attention).
Traffic signs put up by my government are different than billboards put up by a company. The former is to protect me, the latter is to exploit me.

The fact that ads work doesn't mean that they're beneficial to the economy.
I disagree with the premise that non-human entities are entitled to my attention.

Trump should launch a Tiktok clone on Truth Social in 90 days when the reprieve expires. I'm surprised there wasn't a new platform ready to pounce on new users. Absolutely nuts that one of the biggest refugee destinations is literally named after a Mao-era propaganda tool.
But in all seriousness, there's 3 branches of government and 2 of spoken. Trump's voice should be moot. Hopefully he's put in his place by our institutions and shamed for attempting to subvert the system of checks and balances described by our constitution.

Is that true for elderly non-violent men confined in Japan? I thought solitary confinement was mostly a US barbarity. Does Japan use it as frequently?
The women discussed in the article had compulsory work. That's probably part of the appeal, it's good to stay busy and feel useful.

Humane jails are the safety net of last resort. I wish the US had a humane enough incarceration system for it to provide that role to unhoused folks.
But yeah, there should be a lot of nets above that too.
