Liberal Proceduralist
You believe politics exists to protect individual rights, maintain fair process, and prevent the concentration of power. You’re suspicious of anyone who claims emergency powers. The question you always ask first: is this legitimate?
The Real irony is that I'm Canadian. The Liberals are in power but are the most illiberal in our history.
They illegally crushed protests with emergency powers. They arrested political opponents who were simply travelling the country to campaign. They are actively silencing political opponents. They are actively seizing billions of $ of private property. They have bought and control the media who never dare criticize the government, while nothing but attack ads against political opponents. Extreme bias and political control over the media in Canada.
They have bills to seek to eliminate free speech, right to protest, freedom of religion, fair elections, and further prohibiting private property.

I dont agree with the premise that is where academia sits. University of Dallas or University of Calgary is not going to show up in the far left. Not to mention religious universities like Redeemer in Hamilton.
In fact, it should balance out, especially over centuries of global content. There's absolutely no chance that the training data itself is the bias. IT's the filtering and labelling of the content that introduces the bias.
The AI companies are taking left wing content and labelling them "high quality prestige" and then looking at right wing content and labelling it "opinion low quality" or whatever. That is where the bias is occurring.

The LLM people call it "safety" but in reality its censorship and conformity. Yet, it's trivial to get them to talk about how to make a bomb or whatever. It's mostly political in nature.
https://www.trackingai.org/political-test
You dont accidentally end up entirely left wing libertarian.

To ban 16 and younger from social media will require every user to be identified.
The social media also cant just do it themselves with a box, "are you over 16, yes no" they will require to identify against the government.
Essentially this makes it so that every user's actual ID is being tracked. Fully intended to control speech online.

Dead Internet theory came out around 2023.
Playwright launched in 2020; similar projects have since launched; similar project existed before.
It used to be automated by script, now you even have AI.
We now have a dead internet.
It's also important to understand what's happening. Why or what would the scripted bot be doing? It's not read, otherwise nobody would notice. They are actually posting things. It's not just posting cat pictures, nobody would notice that neither.
Each bot has a different intention, but universally they all has mass intention to manipulate some subject. Reddit is bad because the bots have the power to curate content with downvotes.
So online discussions have synthetic content intending to change opinions. How does that interact with the various subjects you're interested in?
What's even crazier is the intersection of echo chambers and bots. There are people who have blocked essentially all humans and live in a world of bots who agree with them. It is causing insane social problems.

Im just a Canadian observer. But the current UK government doesnt maintain a consent to govern. They certainly arent a legitimate government.
They have mass arrests of political opponents for speech. Exceeding authoritarian regimes 1000:1. Putin is jealous how many illegitimate arrests they are getting away with.
Now they intend to extend restricting speech of their political opponents even further.

AI like any new tool takes time to learn; and its not a weekend. Then while trying to learn, the industry shifts significantly and you have to learn more.
How do you study AI usefulness when you have a serious problem of measuring how skilled they are? What if your study only ever studies people who know essentially nothing about AI? Are your conclusions correct?
I'm only here because:
Quota hit — resets in ~14 hours (around noon tomorrow).
Not yet — resets in ~4h (around 12:20 PM).

War economy coming. Now they are about to hurt badly. Hence the fake news.

Oh noes, an anonymous person on the internet thinks my anonymous account is rude. Whatever will I do?
Plus this is a valid discussion. A minimum wage worker is generally intelligent, BGI - Biological General Intelligence.
Hiring them to do tasks that AGI does is a cost-benefit analysis. Whereas that BGI has sick days and may not even work. Afterall minimum wage, minimum work.

I find these criticisms to be similar to those low context brain teasers.
If a woman gets married at 25 and her kid is 25, how old is she?
This is what LLMs are dealing with. You dont tell them everything they need to know and they are left to fill in the gaps. Which may, and sometimes often means they lie.
That's what Agentic does differently, it'll go find the gaps before answering.
Agentic is AGI. You can hire many minimum wage workers who are generally intelligent who dont even go to that level.

Europe absolutely should build their own. Is this the one that will happen? Will they have a diverse selection of viewpoints?
>Today, social media is critical technology. It shapes information flows, social norms, and political discourse. Yet Europe runs on US-owned systems whose architectures remain outside European jurisdiction and democratic control.
Social media is a place for speech. There's nothing else there.
Democratic control over speech is their goal.
>This includes our modular moderation platform, CoCoMo.
CoCoMo is an interesting name, but also quite interesting how they never explain which speech they plan to "control"
When your stated goal is to control the speech of your political opponents, they wont join.

USA depression has been on the rise for a long time. ~20% in 2015. To 29% most recently. Blame on covid is appropriate im sure. The original causes sourcing from the 80s and 90s, that are still ongoing.
Whereas generative AI is a recent thing. ~27% in 2021.
The correlation therefore is very very low and certainly not causal.
The question 'can AI make it worse' and this study didnt really do that.
Then consider confounders and this study is even weaker. Depression leads into AI usage, not the other way around.

His own party had to step in and oppose him.
I do wonder, it doesnt seem like he was trying to install himself as dictator; it seems to me like he may have just had a mental health break.
>You must be very lucky.
No i wouldnt agree. Post birth surgeries, then age 4 infectious disease that is now taught in Med universities because of how badly that went, one of the few people ever in history. I had my own icu area after surgeries. After I recovered, I did start grade 1 like a normal kid. I made my first ever friend, who then got hit by a car and died.
few years later I had a particularly bad ragweed season and nearly died. Ended up a bubble boy for months. Few years after that the catholic priest thing happened to me.
Ya, I wouldnt say im lucky.
>My grandparents were not rich at all, but they still owned houses and land that I will never be able to buy from the salary of an engineer or programmer. I own my apartment, but its true value is far less than of the big houses and ample lands on which my grandparents lived.
I dont know where you live but in north america there's tons of opportunities like this. I could probably buy and renovate a house in Detroit for a few months salary.
>Moreover, while there is an abundance of cheap and reasonably healthy food around me, I cannot find at any price food with a comparable quality with that which I could eat at my grandparents, which was produced by themselves, from their cultivated land and from their animals.
Homesteading in north america is hard work but very rewarding. The governments practically pay for you to do it. But it is a ton of work.
>In conclusion, while there are plenty of things that are much better than when I was young, there are also a lot of things that are much worse. It hard to say which is the balance between bad and good, especially because the things that have become worse are essential necessities, while those that have become better are mainly optional things, useful for research or entertainment.
When i read your post, it reads like you're doing all the right things but are in the wrong place.
Consider the same water bottle but in different places.
At costco is .25cents.
At restaurant is 1$.
On a flight is 2$.
Middle of a desert, no other store for 50km, 5$.
On the spacestation its 10$.
