I am an ex-researcher at Trustworthy Systems (the people behind seL4).
Something I've noticed from my operating systems hacking days is that current datacentre compute is unnecessarily expensive.
I believe I know how to solve this through the work done at the lab, and I would like to get funding for me to work on this.
I believe there is already a competitor out there (https://formalstack.com/).
I am 27 and I have zero idea on how I would get the necessary funding for this project as an Australian and I was wondering if anyone here would be able to help?

There is always a specification, the question is "was this issue found against a version of seL4 that had been fully specified or not?".
I worked at the lab, I wasn't aware of any bug/issue on the fully specified kernel, that is why I am unsure if this counts or not.
I would need to have a look at the source code and proofs to confirm.

I believe only certain versions and on certain architectures is seL4 verified for. There are no bugs found at the C source code level for these builds of seL4.

Nah trains >>> planes, not even a comparison.
Especially since the cheaper plane flights in Europe are absolutely painful, dropping you off 2 hours away from the city centre into some minor airport.
Taking the TGV from Paris to Zuerich in comparison is such a relief.

Well I guarantee you the research project I worked on is now gonna get shut down because of this.
Academic work has costs but nothing like 42k per month, if anything that was the entire budget allocation for one RA's salary for 80% of the year.
The current project I am on now, has only been allocated 250k for multiple people (3 RAs) working on it for the year.

This doesn't surprise me, I pirate stuff because I am bored and want something to watch. The price tag to buy movies at $20 or so dollars is just too much.
I did have a patch of piracy free media when Netflix was had everything I wanted to watch, now Netflix cancels nearly every show I get excited about after one season. In addition to this there are like 5 or 6 providers now, paying $20 or so per provider for 4k streaming is just too costly.

Elon was just unnecessarily cruel with the layoffs imo, if he had been more professional and less political I think people would have had a different reaction.
The anti Elon group grew pretty massively when he laid off people in the way that he did.
Anecdotally, I was neutral of Elon before the layoffs but that changed when I saw the way he conducted himself.

because recruitment for software eng roles is lazy imo. The least effort is to look for someone with experience.
I am personally of the opinion that experience isn't a good indicator of programming ability, but it may be an indicator of software engineering capability. See here https://blog.codinghorror.com/skill-disparities-in-programmi... (links to a study and talks about this point more)
I've worked with masters students who were far better programmers than senior engineers I've worked with.

Firstly your "quarantine camp" is actually a quarantine facility. These were setup because people wanted an alternative to hotel quarantine (because these were ineffective). This facility was for travelers not for random Australians.
We didn't have this facility in Victoria, it was only for NT. We had to quarantine at home. A lot of Victorians weren't happy about not having a similar facility because the hotel quarantine that Victoria had in place wasn't as effective. We would go to zero cases and then a some staff would get covid from the hotel and spread it.
We quarantined at home. My family got sick and guess what, they weren't "dragged off" by the Gestapo, they just stayed at home for 7 days.
Fox News isn't the best source of information fyi.
Regardless, Australia is a democracy (I am not sure if you knew this), if these were unpopular, the parties involved will be voted out. Australia has preferential voting so there is no reason why an anti lockdown party couldn't win.
I can't be arsed explaining this, look here: https://www.reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoop/comments/r9zznn/whats_...

Not really there were anti lockdown parties, but they didn't get much votes.
Australia has preferential voting so you aren't really throwing away your vote if you vote for these niche parties.
