Not a thought experiment. Black people do this or something similar all the time. It’s called loitering or “making the neighborhood look bad”

He will lose the sense of security from interacting with other iPhone users which Apple’s walled garden currently provides. The existence of third party appstores on iOS mean I can no longer be sure that an app on an another person iPhone is safe. There’s 100 percent going to be a zero day delivered through these third party Appstores which will spread to iOS devices without any third party AppStore’s installed.
This whole situation seems Kafkaesque. Apple sold billions of iOS devices because party because of the experience they were offering. People like me sort that experience out. Now people saying are that no, that experience was anti consumer.
There’s less choice in the mobile smart phone space because of this. I have no idea why people want iOS to be Android when there’s already Android. And apparently Google’s Android model isn’t good enough either.

I agree with that line of thought too, but one side is sort of represented a terrorist organization who have the ability to murder 1200 people and kidnap others while the other is a western democracy that has the ability kill 30k people as collateral damage level. The collateral damage is so high but people like Sam Harris is saying Israel is engaging in a restrained manner compared to other powers previous retaliatory actions to terrorism.

People can replace doom strolling or social media usage with some reading but after a certain point you will also need to give up certain hobbies or other activities to be as prolific as some other readers.
Yeah you could spend one hour reading over playing that new online game with your friend or watching that new drama with your spouse but then you aren’t socializing.
Or maybe you really care about flexibility so you spend the extra hour you have in the evening doing mobility drills and yoga.
Or maybe you are trying to not fall behind the AI craze in tech so you spend an hour reading about the latest models and experimenting with them.
Point is the person reading for one hour also isn’t doing what you doing. There’s also this underlying assumption that reading is always productive when there’s a lot of low quality content that’s easily consumed. Not every book is East of Eden.

It’s almost night and day compared to when Bob Lee was murdered and they thought vagrant or some other (insert stereotype here) was the culprit. Remember how tough on crime this crowd was then ?
Remember the silence and lack of thought pieces when it turned out to be someone he knew instead of some brown person or drug addict ?

I’m bothered too. I’m looking forward to the first viral app distributed in an alternate App Store with a zero day that can infect iPhones that do not have that app or store installed. I bet Apple will be blamed somehow.
There’s a correlated relationship between open platforms and security but people in this thread seem to imply this has zero security implications.

I don’t know much about generative AI but this can be easily fixed by Google right. I do not see the sky is falling narrative a lot of commenters here are selling.
I’m biased but I would rather have these baffling fuckups at attempting to implement DEI than companies never even attempting at all.
Remember when the Kinect couldn’t recognize black people ?

“Entrepreneurs often write about what’s going right, but too rarely write about what’s gone wrong“
They do in retrospectives like this after they achieved later success.I found that a lot of rich and successful people in different domains love talking about pass failures after they eventually succeed.
You very very rarely see a post on here from someone who failed, and they do not know how to fix the issue or their next move in life.

Threads like this are not good for my mental health. I’m a public sector software engineer for the US government in the DMV. I have eights years in and I’m barely making 6 six figures. I’m considering getting out but it won’t be easy. It’s a weird feeling that at 31 I feel like I already screwed up career and income wise. Is there any chance I could make 200k plus before 40 ?
I have a coworker that believes we are paid well considering our benefits and pto compared to the average software developer. His argument is that outside of FAANG, salaries for the average developer aren’t that much higher than ours. And if they are, the working conditions are worst. He also believes FAANG employees are working more than 80 hours work, or they are super better than “public sector employees” so that’s why they command higher pay. I don’t buy the last one.
