<p>Hey, at least it lowers expectations enough that Linux Desktop is good enough with the latest KDE Plasma and to a some extent Gnome.<p>Apple lost it's broken but incessant leader, and Tim Cook is lets' face it a chair warmer in comparison.<p>Say what you want, but the disillusionment is sat there, in your view, or you simply never knew Apple when it was "good".<p>Hey, maybe people will actually understand why proprietary software is, if not immoral, it's the on-ramp for mass control and manipulation that makes the TV central broadcast propaganda soup era, nothing at all in comparison to the manipulation of people by software.</p>

<p>If you self host and also write some of your own services, the same requirements are as they always were.<p>minimal ~ < $100 hardware (Dell, Acer etc mini or ssf pc)<p>install your linux distro, use your preferred containers, or just run as services on the os.<p>There's no ads, no ai, no layer of shite, it can't be "enshittified" unless you're doing the shittifying.</p>

<p>There's a threshold, of both user ability and scale of 'problem'<p>I mostly agree with you dfabulich - the repeated efforts to create node/pipeline tools "visual programming languages" are not built for us, and feel redundant.<p>But I took issue with "where you don't need it" as this is very much dependent on who "you" is.</p>
