I’ve written translators that also had to consider pattern changes. The amount of training to translate code effectively is enormous to be effective at scale. I assume this is segmenting separate models based on each language permutation.
I would love to see AI applied to predict algorithms and provide intelligent recommendations.

That's a real issue. It's not just a monopoly in a competitive sense but also a monopoly on 'public squares'. Which is effectively against free speech.
When a company or moderator has the power to ban you from a public space your are ostracized by a non-democratic panel, with unknown agendas.

That is one of the reasons why I got into programming. Not exactly because of roguelikes but MUDs. After playing muds, and wanting to make my own I started with Diku, and then started building them from scratch in many other languages.
The ECS pattern became something really interesting to me just because of the highly serializable state.
One of the MUDs my community was involved in had a great developer behind it. It was just so amazing how fast new features were added to the system. The idea that you don't need assets, animations, etc is critical.
I would love for a book series that would cover something like this in multiple languages.

When I hear mental model I am thinking more.of the lines of perception. The value of a mental model is understanding it. To the extent of replicating or teaching it. It is a model. A model is defining a set of relatable understanding to another. Finding a commen sense set of abstractions.

I'm less worried about understanding of sorting algorithms than I am about understanding of patterns. With any team at scale my hardest challenge is about patterns. More importantly why a pattern is used. Efficiency of a sorting algorithm can be refactored. Is the implementation of the sorting composable? I'll hire without question someone who understands patterns and composablilty over someone who can site an ideal solution. Seriously at what cost does readability over complexity really mean anything to consumer value. I understand that in very limited scope computational efficiency is imperative but let's be pragmatic and say good programming and understanding of best practices trump perfect solutions.
