New comment by jborichevskiy in "Formlabs Studio 1 $699 Resin Printer"

Jeff Geerling has a great video about this printer that got me up to speed on resin printing as well - coming from the 3d printing world I'm stoked to see the price dropping but it also seems like a lot more hassle to me at this stage

2000 nits peak screen brightness with nano texture is going to look incredible outdoors. Not sure I'm feeling the need to upgrade yet but glad the brightness+coating combo will continue to be a thing

In my experience this goes for more than just talks - can be helpful at events and regular meetings too

Great writing. Felt like it could be a Black Mirror episode

Backfilling it with content from other sites is such a good idea, I'm stealing that for when friends say it's been a bunch of time since they published

Definitely one of my favorites too! In my experience though it's best used at the location you're expecting the sunset, tricky to see when a specific point elsewhere will have their sunset (it may have changed though, I should check this)

I've wanted something like this - in Boulder the foothills cast a shadow on the town considerably earlier than sunset provided by weather apps. So in theory, this should be possible to figure out when a park will actually see a sunset. Nice work!

New comment by jborichevskiy in "The iPhone Upgrade Program is being replaced by Apple Upgrade"

jborichevskiy — Tue, 28 Jul 2026 21:08:02 +0000

It's a little unclear; they make you select a carrier, but buried in the fine print is:

"For iPhone only: In order to lease an iPhone, you must select an eligible carrier (but you cannot use a prepaid carrier plan). A leased iPhone is always unlocked, so you can switch carriers at any time, subject to your carrier’s terms."

So it... is unlocked? I am also on US Mobile and don't want to leave it

Normally I'd agree, but the rest of the sentence does actually discuss open models and their use cases.

I'd wondered if something like this existed, wanted it on my last roadtrip. Thanks!

I'm moving to a new place and my office will have an exposed I-beam and I'm stoked. The healthiest points of my life seem to correlate with industrial architecture that I can hang on directly or with rings!

It helps, doesn't completely cure it for me but makes looking at google maps / iMessage more bearable. Not reading essays yet though.

I got taken back to Club Penguin as well. Especially clicking into the cave or treehouse and getting transported into a little side pocket of the map. Amazing work!

I know this is mostly parody, but I'm curious if anyone has good starter templates for something that covers the general stuff and doesn't require a lawyer to customize

It's possible, but then wouldn't retailers who don't force their customers to crawl through an LLM maze eat their lunch? Natural economics at play would still happen I think

Amazing stuff, have you written up a blog post? I could see a video being a fun format for this as well. Might help people develop the intuition for watts/power consumption in a different way
