Curious to know how are you interviewing engineers?
Do you have a no-LLM policy?
Are take-home tests worth it?
How do you make sure engineer is a "good" engineer?

hey HN!
This is Cody, I used GPT Realtime and gave it access to nvim and its native tools so you can literally talk instead of writing nvim commands.
It's a prototype still, but the experience is really interesting. This is what I imagine using the soon-to-release Thinking Machines API. Let me know what you think :)

I'm CTO at a startup and Magic Patterns is amazing, my current workflow is to ideate using MP then implement straight to my codebase.
The instant feedback-loop of iterating over components is great and perfect for me when I'm designing a feature that's heavy on the client side of things.
For example it took me half a day to go from idea -> design -> implementation

At my company we were B2B2C so a lot of features had to be built for the B2B side and also the B2C side.
B2B side asked for an analytics dashboard, we manually sent them Retool apps segmented with their data hardcoding ids in the query.

I'm currently experiencing this with a 3 month old startup (I'm the CTO)
Two years into a marriage with a 6 month old kid,
My experience:
- It's hard, if your playing a video game it would be in `very hard` mode
- Talk to your wife beforehand, she was okay with the opportunity
- Had a LOT of savings
- Have a co-founder (highly recommend it)
- We've raised preseed money (co-founder handled all of that)
- I hired an ex-coworker that I worked with previously (that's why you raise money)
- I'm remote so I get to spend more time with my baby (if I'm not productive during that day I try to code long nights and usually feed the baby during the night so my wife rests)
Overall it's been super hard but gratifying :)
PS: I also try to exercise for an hour a day to keep me sane

TLDR:
I work at a dev shop as a PM and found out a family member of mine (I live with him) has turned positive for Covid-19..
We have few amount of helping hands and although I'm working remotely and they are aware of the situation I'm getting the same amount of assignments (or even more..)
Is it just my paranoia or is the company a little bit toxic in these type of situations?
Been thinking about leaving the company for a few months
