> It's about on par with the ridiculousness of LOC implying code quality.
Most effective engineers on the brownfield projects I've worked on, usually deleted more LOC than they've added, because they were always looking to simplify the code and replace it with useful (and often shorter) abstractions.

> I mean, it's literally a link on a web page. You click the link, it takes you to The BEAM Book's page.
Now instead of putting the details in the title, you have me reading paragraphs of text and clicking links to figure out what the author is talking about. Did I understand you correctly?

Because of you ask a person who works on Beam about “the Beam book” thats the one they are going to recommend. Who knows that the BEAM book is literally called “the BEAM Book”? There are many books like that, “the SRE book” is actually Site Reliability Engineering: How Google Runs Production Systems, etc.

> I still doubt they're gonna face any serious penalties
Having to fix all P320 fire control units they've sold so far will put them out of business. You don't even need any additional penalties on top of that. I just hope they can spin off Optics division before that happens.

> What we need is much better whistleblower programs.
Unfortunately, not many organizations will have the aligned incentives. If businesses that conduct potentially dangerous operations, were required to get an insurance, then insurance companies would have incentive to pay money to the whistleblower vs paying out a much larger claim down the line.

My friend in Eastern Europe ran a bot farm in WoW. He ran bots on his computers that farmed resources, then sold resources for gold and then sold the gold to Chinese for end-user resale. The only labor involved was hiring some college students and paying them for each top-level character they progress that can be used for farming. He even bought my character for $50 when I stopped playing.
