Previously I worked at Auth0. I joined fairly early, just a couple of years after their founding so the company was still small. I remember one of my collegues who joined around the same time got his job by sending (multiple) cold emails to my manager at the time telling how much he admired the company and wanted to join. Eventually he gave in and gave him the job. The guys stayed on long after I left so it obviously work out well for both parties.

I think it will still be objectively bad. But maybe compared to Windows 12, it will seem good.

I think what makes it confusing is that their diagrams depict a completely separate schema, but what they describe is really just altering the existing schema.

This last incident in 2017, I was standing by the immigration officer, and while he was looking through my documents, I was looking around at the people waiting in the queue. He asked if I was travelling with someone. I said no. He asked why I was looking at the queue. I said I was just looking around. He told me to stop looking around and look in front of me. I said OK. Somewhere during this I put my hands in my pocket, so he told me to take my hands out of my pocket. I was a bit startled at this and trying to figure out what was going on with the guy. I was obviously too slow for him so he shouted loud "take your hands out of your damn pocket". I just zipped my mouth and wanted to get through it.

Once I got past him, I needed to get a connecting flight to Mexico. I walked down a passage following the directions and saw that I was going to end up in the main check-in area. Since I was just connecting, I was confused and I asked two immigration officers whether I am going in the right direction. The lady just told me "keep moving sir". I tried to explain that I was connecting and thought I was going in the wrong direction. She then shouted at me "keep moving!". I told her again "please, just listen to me", and she shouted at me again. Thankfully, the guy with her told her to calm down and took a minute to listen to me and explained that I was going the right way.

Honestly, this trip was the last straw for me and I vowed never to go back. The contrast between the immigration in the US and other countries - especially compared to Asia - was night and day. I decided I would visit countries that are happy to have me visit and treat me with dignity instead.

Another time in the US, I was walking past a construction site. I was walking outside the safety barriers, but on the same side of the street. I guy rushed out at me and started shouting at me to get on the opposite side of the road. Huge guy. Looked like he wanted to attack me and was red in the face of fury and spittle sprayed all over me while he was shouting at me.

Quite honestly, there are too many angry people over there. I have visited many countries and never experienced anything like the angry people in the US.

Just to clarify, I am not referring to people who had existing startups and added a feature to their startup that uses ChatGPT. I am specifically referring to those people where ChatGPT is central to your startup, and your startup would not exist if not for ChatGPT.

The AI startup wave passed me, so I have no horse in this race. I am also not very clued up on all the AI technologies, so forgive my ignorance. To me, it seems that this would be concerning if I had a startup that existed purely because of ChatGPT.

Besides converting content to markdown, it also has a few other nifty tricks:

- We download all images and include them in the ZIP file we generate for you. (The image URLs that Google generates for you are temporary and only valid for about 30 minutes) - When the option is enabled, we will convert any standalone links to social media sites to the proper embed code - For developers, you can add your source code to a single-cell table (i.e. a table with one row and one column) and, given you have enabled the option, we will create a fenced code block for you.

BTW, there is also a Google Docs Add-on[2] I created some months ago that you can use. This add-on is useful in that you can use if from inside Google Docs and don't have to navigate to a separate website.

I love .NET and ASP.NET Core, but I use it purely for backend. And even there, I use 3rd party libraries like Fast Endpoints (https://fast-endpoints.com/). Microsoft keeps bringing in new technologies and effectively abandoning the ones that fall out of favour (look at the progression from MVC -> Razor Pages -> Blazor). I do not blame the Microsoft Store team for not trusting the .NET team to not simply abandon Blazor as well somewhere down the line and instead opt for other technologies for the front-end.

I am running my own Saas company (https://www.usecloudpress.com/) and I ask explicit permission from companies that use my product whether I can use their name, logo, and some testimonial text on my website. I would never even consider using it without their permission.

For me, I got my clients through my personal blog about programming where some people contacted me and asked to hire me. You can also just start being very active on the relevant communities in your niche and build up a reputation.

All of this takes time, but I believe it to be the most reliable long term strategy to get work from high quality clients on your own terms.
