Hi HN, I recently created this side project, an electronic component inventory management system.
Basically I am the creator of a 6502-based retro computer, the Planck 6502. I tried to sell it on Tindie and on my website but I was quite disorganized, meaning that I never knew if I had enough parts to make a whole kit or not. Sometimes I would take an order, only to notice that a critical component was missing and I had to cancel the order and issue a refund.
I resorted to a more manual process where I asked interested parties to contact me by email if they wanted to buy a kit. I would then prepare the package and only then send them a payment link. This was a hassle for everyone. I needed some organization. Partkeepr seems to be the standard electronic component management tool, so I gave it a try. Installation was easy, but using it not so much. It seemed way too complex for my basic needs: know how many of each project I can build with the parts I have in stock, and know when to restock each component.
So I thought I would make my own electronic component management system, https://inventronic.org
It allows me to keep parts in well defined locations. Each part container (small drawer usually) has a label generated by the app stuck onto it. I bought a label printer for that explicit purpose. The label has the part name, value and footprint on it, as well as a QR code that is a direct link to the part page to easily update inventory from the phone.
The projects page allows me to know exactly how many of each I can build, and which parts are running low. The only thing missing for my use case is a way to know if I can build two or more different projects with the parts I have (I often sell several kits at once to the same customer)
But anyway, it's been exactly a month since I started working on this. It's time to see what people think. If it's something that might interest you, head over to https://inventronic.org and login with demo@example.org, the password is 'password'
There are still a few bugs, but I am already using it to manage my electronic components.
If you like what you see, create your own account, or self-host it (I tried to make it as easy as possible to self-host, details on github: https://github.com/6px/inventronic)
Built with Nuxtjs and Supabase backend.

I used to work 5 days a week, 9 am to 2pm. I quite liked it, but my employer would often call or ask for "urgent" stuff to be down after my hours, which meant I could not be fully present for family or whatever I had planned. I have now switched to a 3 days workweek at another job, and I find it much easier to set effective boundaries. If I'm not there I'm not there and that's it. I don't think I could ever go back to working 40 hour weeks to be honest. When do you get anything personal done?

I'm a complete beginner regarding this stuff, so if I may ask, how would I go about downloading the relevant model (e.g. wizardcoder-python-34b-v1.0.Q4_K_S.gguf) I checked on Hugging face but all I got was a bunch of .bin files...
Thanks.

I used to be a naval architect, and I completely agree with you. This type of design is extremely inefficient for cargo delivery. I think it is unrealistic to expect to be able to even remotely compete with diesel cargo ships. As another commenter said, the crew are in fact paying passengers (I have not verified this) which means this is actually a cruise ship, which makes a lot more sense. It must be a great experience.
In my mind, the only way sailing ships can come back as work boats is if a way is found to make them nearly automatic and space efficient. In my mind this means large steel ships, not dissimilar to regular cargo ships, but with automated kite sails (e.g. https://skysails-marine.com/) as they do not tend to tip the ship over like regular sails do.

In my case it’s because interfacing to the CPU bus is much simpler, and the code to drive it way smaller. SD card pretty much require a separate interface such as a 6522 VIA.
