It's more expensive to buy and prepare fresh food than shelf stable ultra processed foods and requires more time. Poor people have access to 'poor' calories. I would wager that children would also inherit the eating habits of poor parents.

I did - I had a Macbook air on and off on the side, but Windows was home base for 30 years. I ditched Windows for good when 11 came around, it has become untenable.

LG 24" 4k monitors are like $350 - might be worth a try. I have two with my M3 Pro and they look fantastic - sharp text, good color and viewing angles.

Maybe faster... but I've met very few developers that are good DBAs (that understand procedures, cursors, permissions etc.) Database schema versioning / consistency is a whole other level of pain too.

I see so many new $80k trucks in my area that people can’t possibly afford. They’re the last people that would ride a bike or vote to improve infrastructure like that, unfortunately.

I was totally surprised how many people I had met in those first classes, who had no programming experience whatsoever and were surprised by the amount of math in the curriculum - they were for sure chasing a trend.

I think my class was the last to graduate from arts/sciences, the CS dept was moved into the engineering college.

If I remember correctly, there were 600 CS freshmen in 2000 at Virginia Tech, only ~60 of us were left by graduation, I think largely because of people evaluating their prospects after the crash (and computer science is hard).

As someone who has had a large project go from TypeScript -> TS/JsDoc -> back to TypeScript... I was NOT a fan of trying to use JsDoc for types.

Tony Robbins talks a lot about this. I'm not one for self help books but it really does affect your ability to affect change.

Well I think the author makes a good point - the flat finish looks a lot better with more interesting colors (and more gloss). The abundance of de-saturated blues and green will age like milk.

Which is funny, because after 2008 it felt like a lot of the bedroom communities / strip malls struggled and went down hill (lack of demand I guess) - and it felt like a whole wave of young people were only wanting to live in the city.

I do feel like MacOS has done a better job of continuity - they change the system preference tool one time, Microsoft has done it like 4 times. Microsoft messed with the Start menu nearly every release, most people would still be fine with how it was way back in XP/2000. The place where MS shined was program and api compatibility and no sudden surprises (usually) - you knew what was coming down the roadmap ahead of time!

Same, and DOS before it. I've always been a Microsoft fan, but I'm a bit tired now. Apple silicon is a killer feature and I'm finding it hard to justify not moving wholesale to it (I'm dual wielding right now).
