I think the Prius is something like a "traditional hybrid" or "mild hybrid" (I don't fully remember) which comes down to battery size and how exactly it moves the car.

My point is basically: modern PHEV hybrids are supposed to be used by charging the battery and filling the tank and their MPG ratings come from a carefully determined protocol of doing that, where as owners treat them as traditional/mild hybrids and just fill the tank.

I imagine that regen braking will push that battery charge up a bit but just doesn't overcome the added weight of the large battery plus motor, engine, transmission etc to get the really great MPG rating.

They will all virtue signal about how they're an "ethical" corporation that "prioritises humans" and "puts safety first". In reality they outsourced you to India because it was cheaper and now they're going to outsource you to AI because it's cheaper still.

The social contract is broken, there is no career in anything anymore, every single skill you can learn will be commoditised and automated and unfortunately thats a necessary evil. You will have to fight corporations and private equity for every scrap tho.

The only jobs that AI cannot take, by definition, are:

- Government mandated roles with legal accountability such as C-suite (all decisions will be made by AI but a human CEO/CFO must be legally accountable), various safety monitor roles that will likely be nothing more than Homer Simpson clicking Ok.

- Any job where the market is prepared to pay specifically for a human (think higher end daycare, nursing, waiting etc where wealthier customers will pay more for the status of having a real human)

- Ownership of a company, assets, anything - AI will never be allowed to own anything otherwise whats the point. The only way you'll be able to make money as a human doing something you might enjoy is if you start a company

Despite this, I bought a cheap used 2020 Nissan Leaf and hopefully will never look back. This year it makes a huge difference but last year it would be barely a few percent cheaper than petrol. I'm a nerd and I'm happy to do some extra planning for road trips, but I don't think the average person will look at an EV like this. Range anxiety essentially limits you to ~60% of total range capacity (you're not going to sit at a service waiting absurd amounts of time to charge the last 20%, and you're not going to risk getting so low that if the next charger is faulty it will strand you).

I do agree that hybrids are nuts, and only make sense for a small demographic. I also suspect that they are a green scam as I read that most PHEV owners don't bother to actually plug them in, so the impressive ~100 MPG figures are actually worse than ICE. I'm not a car guy but even I can recognise that the hybrid engine provides absolutely zero satisfaction, especially with a CVT.

So yes, people are buying hybrids because of inflated MPG marketing, virtue signalling, whatever government benefits you get from a "green" vehicle (not much, our government isn't serious about EVs and hates anyone having a car) but most importantly the fact that every service station in the country can fuel it, in a few seconds.

Even ICE cars have gotten a little too good over the last couple of decades, I see plenty of early 2000s models driving around today looking perfectly fine.

How are these corporations supposed to maximise profit if they keep churning out perfectly sensible vehicles?

Meta has made the concept popular, but hardware feasibility already tipped the scales, these cameras are going to be ubiquitous and if not in glasses then in even more hidden formats like buttons and pinhole wearables.

I'm at the point where I will often forget to put a patch on. I also cut the patches up to get the desired dose and save money as all box doses are the same price (try and convince me that this is wrong).

It is non-negotiable that humanity "owns" AI and that LLMs, future model architectures and modern robotics are used by all to build a better world for all. This doesn't mean there can't be proprietary tech but it does mean that any corporation who attempts to rip the positive vision of humans not having to do any work from us - must be ripped to shreds themselves.

The alternative is absolute surveillance of all citizens at all times and robot armies keeping us from protesting, while globalists squeeze every last drop out of the planet for themselves and we are forced to own nothing and eat the bugs. You will have to fight for this, there will be no laws or government intervention.

We're going into weird rabbit holes where we've mismatched the tool that is AI which produces extremely cheap code very quickly - with the processes that we've built for slow and expensive to write human-generated code.
