Not only that, he also does sysadmin for the game's infrastructure and administrates the drama-prone community. And whatever else happens behind the scenes. Honestly one of the greatest developers I've seen.

Just a FYI for anyone that has the same problem. The reason the adapters don't work is that they're operating in Audio Accessory Mode. The signal comes from the phone's DAC, and is passed through the data lines of the USB connector to the 3.5 mm jack. Problem is, the charging mode also uses those lines to communicate. Thus it can't do both.
The solution is to use a USB hub with an integrated DAC. I use an older version of this: https://satechi.net/products/mobile-pro-hub-sd

The campaign is at: https://www.crowdsupply.com/mdc-service-wittenburg-gmbh/espi...
Personally I'm interested in running ADC daughter boards on it. Current solution is to hook an eMMC Pi-clone to a separate co-processor board, but having both on a single board is easier. An alternative would be to run a RTOS on the Pi-clone, but I don't know any that support clones with eMMC (I have Tinker Boards and RockPis)

But how often can you say with confidence it will take 30 minutes? If the author was wrong about being able to do it in time, the players would waste their time waiting for a solution and eventually leave. It might be better to just tell the players to go home.
IME with a hotfix you have no choice but to fix it, no matter how long it takes.
