That is naive. 'they need a real government that protects people's rights' and this government will magically materialize out of thin air and institute an island paradise, right? You can't even meaningfully discuss a real 'military' in Haiti, it is a failed state with minimal control of even their capital city.

I totally agree with you, but it's pretty obvious why this behaviour exists. At the end of the day, a cell phone is as much a status symbol, something akin to the clothes you wear, as much as it is an actual phone. Would you potentially lower your opinion of someone wearing a strange piece of clothing? The principle is exactly the same.

Looks like the EU finds pricing a non-physical product on a country-by-country basis to be price discrimination against EU nationals:
"When you buy goods online in the EU, prices may vary from country to country or across different versions of the same website, for example due to differences in delivery costs. However, if you buy goods online without cross-border delivery – such as when you buy something online which you intend to collect from a trader or shop yourself – you should have access to the same prices and special offers as buyers living in that EU country."
As a dev that hasn't touched Ruby in his time yet, could you expand on the productivity differences you've seen between Java/C# and ruby devs? I totally buy that a language like ruby can be more productive, but a 3x difference is wild. Have you found that RoR is really just that much more productive than say, Spring or Asp.NET?
