Just to add another item to the list others have brought up :

Goal displacement -> Goal displacement occurs when an organization or individual shifts focus from original objectives to secondary goals, often prioritizing procedures, metrics, or internal processes over intended outcomes.

In large corps, people who are good at staying in a company, and people who are good at serving the company's objectives are typically two different skillsets. And one of those skillset helps you stay inside the company more than the other.

Something that helped me in the past, at a period where I was lost; is to take a notebook and write every night what part of the day actually gave you energy. Can be a sub-part of work, or something outside of work, whatever.

What helped me is that there is usually a difference between what you are naturally good at, which is what you will tend to gravitate towards because you get results, vs what actually gives you energy. Over time, you can see trend and find a sport where both are true at the same time.

Oh, and also internalize that fact that those things may change over time as you grow as a person :)

I do definitely feel this 100% on all the larger companies claiming huge AI gains. Spotify, Microsoft, Google, ... Steady decline in quality, more and more sluggishness, random strange bugs showing.

I do believe we'll go the other way again, but unsure how soon.

Shipping faster is great, it just feels like quality has been lower on the priority the past few years.

This, 200 times. No weekly news does not mean dead. In some specific places like this one, it means stable. (And also arguably, for good or bad reasons, why it will never become mainstream).

I never imagined my blogs to be useful to anyone. For me, they're mostly just things I felt like sharing but with no particular audience in mind. Over the years though, I find myself receiving email from people who I helped. I even googled quite a few things in the past years only to find the first answer to be a blog of mine. So I unblocked myself a few times.

Blogging is fun. What's obvious for you isn't for everyone.

We're talking about a deep human experience here. I don't know about HN as a whole but I personally come out of this much more touched about the human side of the story and how someone's life events can tremendously change their paths and goals than the LLM itself.

Honestly I think we're on our way back to good old networking. Realized that myself after trying to hire and receiving hundreds of automated applications in minutes, all seemingly tailored with a cover letter.

Moved house earlier this year, from an apartment in a not so safe area to a house in a family area with no cars and more green. The kiddos have been out so much more, and it's awesome to see how they find phones / screens less interesting when they can just go and play outside.
