You probably can't eliminate any sort of political bias, but a single 14 year term puts you pretty much outside of any electoral cycle considerations, which is important for maintaining long term stability in monetary. Making them have to stand for election or make the president happy every 4 years would completely eliminate any ability for the board to focus on the actual technical issues. There's a reason why countries that eliminate CRB independence tend to see hyper inflation
It also isn't a lifetime appointment, and tenures are staggered so the board isn't fixed in place for generation like the Supreme Court

Fed governors are subject to democratic accountability (nomination by the president and confirmation by the Senate), but their term is 14 years instead of 4. The Chairman is subject to the same accountability, but on a 4 year term.
There are good reasons why the board of governors is designed to turn over slowly -- it keeps the board focused on long term performance of monetary policy instead of focusing on the next election.

The ability to switch modes is going to be important. I'm on the latest iPadOS beta, and when I'm using it to do work across multiple apps the new macOS like window management is amazing. When I'm just trying to read a book, watch a movie, or do some other focused activity, it's mostly annoying.

I was somewhat expecting that the flake would include nvim bundled with the vimrc in the folder.
You could then just open nvim in the `nix develop` environment (or even use something like direnv to activate it when you cd in) and have a minimal journaling environment

This metric of underemployment is captured in U-5 and U-6 in the BLS statistics.
It's less common to report, but in the aftermath of the financial crisis I remember hearing more about it.
Direct File was rolled out gradually as a pilot program. It was also only available for taxpayers in 12 states.
My guess: since the tax code is so complicated, they probably wanted to support the simplest and most common filing cases in the first release. Handling all the edge cases would delay the launch, and prevent them from collecting feedback. If the feedback and demand was positive for v1, they could expand the surface area in the future.
Unfortunately, it didn't last long enough

Is there a collection of note taking practices (such as they exist) among the great thinkers/scientists in history? Is there an assessment or study of their notebooks somewhere that distills best practices? Are techniques like ZK or spaced repetition based on those practices or studies? Have they been studied for desirable traits?
The science of notetaking so far seems to have a lot of art and opinion, but little science

I guess the danger here is that for vaccines that we already know reduce the risk of deadly diseases, you’d either:
Randomly expose patients to the risk of contracting a known debilitating/deadly disease
Or
No one who comes in for the vaccine will consent the trial

What would be the benefit of a placebo study vs studying the differences between vaccinated and unvaccinated populations?
Is the hypothesis that there is some kind of psychosomatic/placebo effect to vaccines, where just the process of getting injected changes outcomes?
