Why is it 'of course impossible'? Couldn't we someday have nanobots or other tech that could screen all your cells and be able to indicate whether any cancerous cells remain?

The nature of LLMs is that you give them input, they give you output. That allows for distillation. They do try to make it harder by hiding the chain of thought stuff, but fundamentally, if your model is publicly available, its distillable.

The common refrain is "you can get a Grand Jury to indict a ham sandwich". The standards required to indict are quite low. The fact that they failed to get an indictment here must mean they had ~nothing.

There's been a lot of failed attempts at therapeutic vaccines and the like, but nothing has proven effective. It seems that the virus is quite hard to detect and target in the skin.

That, plus a lack of urgency due to the effectiveness of preventative vaccines, leads to a lack of urgency on the issue.
