In 2003 it was clear we would run out of IPv4 addresses. NAT was already very common. Linksys WRT54G routers were sweeping the residential market. The blaster worm hit in 2003 and upended the way Microsoft thought of security and Internet security. They embarrassingly had to rely on Linux powered devices to do packet filtering in front of Windows Update to keep it online. Most of that news coverage seems scrubbed from the Internet. Brings back memories of using a PCMCIA Cisco Aeronet card to do war driving after watching "theBroken" featuring Kevin Rose.

Russia is running out of refined oil to power their economy. They probably aren't capable of spinning up datacenters to run those.

When I was younger I would do computer repair and maintenance for friends and family. The deal was I didn't charge them and they let me set the computer up to be more secure and useful. Back in the XP days I used a Winsock32 Fix to replace a section of the registry to remove malware before installing an antivirus I chose. Regardless of what else I did, I would install Mozilla (later Firefox) and change the icon in Windows to be that of Internet Explorer. Later, with newer versions of Windows, I would change the icon to open Chrome. Eventually, everyone switched to using Chrome and I stopped having to do this. Strange how I now need to change the Chrome icon to open Firefox or Brave if I keep volunteering my time. No way will I use Chrome out of the box nor will I let others use it if they want my help.

Drug use changes the way you vote. The people who were running the country during the Vietnam war recognized this and, along with the people who owned industry/media, didn't want that kind of change to go mainstream.

It removes money from your pocket into theirs faster than Claude will take money out of your pocket and into theirs. I was a Windsurf then Cursor user and even provided product feedback to the Cursor team on various aspects of their product but the costs for using it killed the value.

Both can be true. The previous administration bailed out the unfunded pension funds of cities and state employees when they did Covid-19 bailouts despite it having nothing to do with Covid-19 and without requiring these local governments to properly fund these pensions moving forward. They bailed these pension programs out many times more than their financial support for restaurants they forced closed. Basically, America has an economy that is buoyed by AI development and infrastructure spending right now but is poised to pop and the national debt has been ballooned by two to three generations of political leadership failing to properly address underlying issues and instead printing money.

I told Claude Opus 5.0 to use a global api key for a PFAAS to deploy some web applications in a test environment and import some data into them. It balked at using a global api key because the security issues surrounding the permissiveness run afoul of it's sensibilities.

I have done this task with Opus 4.5, Opus 4.6, Opus 4.7, Opus 4.8 and Fable, without issues.

I have done this task with Codex 5.4, Codex 5.5, and Sol 5.6 without issues.

Opus 5 is too cautious to be productive for me. It needs more tuning.

Oracle = Pain, Suffering, High Costs, Litigation, and Human Misery. If it wasn't for non-technical middle management that likes the perks of buying high cost software from vendors that throw nice parties they'd be out of business.

Short term you might be right. Long term we have seen that western "education" results in declines in birthrates. Demographics are destiny.

Uber will fight the laws for at least a couple of years and by then be half way through replacing the entire labor force with autonomous cars. This is a political tactic designed to get Hillary points in the media. She's smart enough to know it'll have little to no long term impact.
