I think everybody talking about how you can get an android device that does this missing the point. Android is not very good. These devices are just repurposed cell phone components, basically.

The original iPod was an offline device with high quality interfaces and it "just worked." The fact that such a thing can't be found for music - let alone video - speaks volumes.

Probably because you and your boss have valuable context and historical knowledge about why things are the way they are, and this is of course lacking when you pawn the task off to Copilot.

I hope this doesn't complicate the process of deploying YouTrack on-prem. That's the best part about YouTrack; historically, you can deploy on prem with no backing DB. From the outside perspective, it just stores everything to flat files.

A massive federal agency rounding up illegal immigrants actually isn't that effective, as has been seen in the USA. What actually works is making it impossible to find a job or housing without proof of citizenship - which is being done in Canada BTW

That's a choice by the people who make websites and browsers that forces the average person to buy a new computer. If we all cared about letting people use old computers, this wouldn't be the case.

You don't need to know anything about the new stuff. You used to be able to get Sudafed; it worked. It was moved behind the counter for $REASONS. You've got enough to guess that the new stuff is some kind of inferior substitute and that you're only going to be able to get the real thing during pharmacy hours.

They wouldn't be selling the placebos if the real stuff were accessible. That's the real answer. The article mentions this but just accepts the inaccessiblity of the real thing as a given.

You used to be able to get Nyquil with real sudafed in it. That was the gold standard. It's not even available behind the counter anymore, presumably because they can make more money from morons buying the placebos.

As an aside:

Yeah, the acetaminophen was there to PREVENT abuse of the Vics and Percs 'cause you'd overdose on the acetaminophen first. Sure, there was an easy workaround, but that was it's intent.

Coal was made unprofitable by fiat and the plants were demolished (supply decreased).

Then, datacenters (demand increased, to put it mildly).

The explanation that one chooses for this is a function of one's other politics but the fact is, one has become a political rallying cry (opposition to demand increase) and the other (blame for supply decrease) has not, and this is the discussion we find ourselves in.

7%? Small? 10 years ago, 5% was significant, and that was in a fairly mature sector.

Granted, in that context, you'd be laying off 5% every two-ish years until industry trends changed direction.
