I think the goal of this project is not to simplify the use of Annas Archive for humans (as they could just use the Website anyways), but to allow AI "Agents" to automatically source information out of books while researching without requiring user interaction.
The LLM's default web-browsing tool probably won't or can't download books from AA while looking for information on a subject. This enables it to do so.

I've seen that there's a demo, but the link is kinda small and you need to scroll down on the Website.
Adding a small gif to the README showcasing one or more implementations of the component would be cool

Maybe also exclude messages by bots (e.g. "username has joined the server") from the index to decrease the stalking-potential of your site (99.9% of these bot messages have no informational-value for the index anyways). Currently you can still search for an username and get a subset of servers that the username is in (even if not active) by finding these bot messages.

GitHub also had a global code-search for around 1 year now, even with some additional search-operators like programming language. grep app has already existed before GitHub added that feature tho.
I think there are some differences in index-size, search fuzzyness, etc. between grep vs github search, but not 100% sure about the details and which is better for what.
Example Query:

Instead of heavily limiting account creation, Discord for example limits the possibility to message users outside of your network by default. Only people you have added as friend or you share a server with are allowed to message you by default.
For signal that would be harder to implement since it's more focused on 1o1 chats instead of groups, maybe if spam gets out of hand they could use a grey-listing approach like Instagram does where users outside your network get moved to the "message requests" inbox by default.

The docs state:

  Not Good For:
  [...]
  User IDs
Can be decoded, revealing user count

So yeah, just using a sequential id and encoding the number with this library is not a viable idea if you want to hide your insights.
