Wouldn't that be worse? With dependencies, it's at least possible that someone else has audited the code, but with a vibe-coded from scratch app, it's definitely totally unreviewed.

This doesn't really have anything to do with the merits of the languages themselves, but rather with the rewrite being entirely vibe coded. If it had been from Rust to Zig instead of from Zig to Rust, I expect the exact same response would have happened.

By that logic, someone else would ask "what's the point of ECH since that data will just leak via DNS?" and then neither technology would ever roll out. Deploying this now despite that is exactly how you fix that chicken-and-egg problem.

The issue isn't that there's a toggle to turn off the cloud protocol in firmware. The issue is specifically that they now require you to turn off the cloud protocol if you want local access.

The major points of this:

TAC is Cisco's customer support.

So Cisco isn't giving you full access to your hardware. One you buy something, there should be nothing that the manufacturer can do to it that you can't.
