Political opinions are not always sacred - there IS a point where you must oppose what is wrong. If you don't think that Trump's racism, bigotry, xenophobia, misogyny, demagoguery, and general incompetence crosses that line...you're obviously not alone. But many of us feel that speaking against Thiel is justified.

Author says the bad outweigh the good, but we haven't fully evaluated the good.
So, question for people who use React Native - how long does it take to go from [100% front end developer familiar with React] ...to [writing solid native apps] with React Native? And how much platform-specific knowledge outside of RN do you need to absorb in order to do this well?

You can just use a different color of LED. Honestly people in Seattle, where these LED lamps were first piloted, have been raising these concerns for at least 4 years. This is the product of some combination of bad design, a lack of user-centered thinking at the utilities, and less than ideal incentives.
For example, daylight led's were touted as making it easier to identify cars involved in criminal activity because you can see the color of the vehicle more easily. But how many times has this actually made the difference in solving a crime?
