While the plugins do support the creation of RLHF datasets for model finetuning, the plugins themselves don't currently use a custom-trained model. They support all major LLM providers (including local). I've found that with the right prompts, the frontier models are shockingly effective. And they are progressing much faster than any custom training effort I could shoestring together. As the models improve, the plugins improve.

I realize there may be some AI fatigue in the HN community, but I've genuinely seen a marked productivity boost using these tools - hence the desire to share them.

With the releases of my GhidrAssist (Ghidra) and BinAssist (Binary Ninja) LLM reverse engineering plugins over the past year, a number of people have reached out to ask "where's the IDA Pro plugin?"

Well - as of today, both IDAssist and IDAssistMCP are live on Github!

As you'd expect, they all share the same look and feel, workflow and feature set, including:

- AI-Powered Function Analysis: One-click function explanation with security assessment

- Interactive Chat: Context-aware chat with macros to inject functions, variables, and disassembly as well as builtin MCP client

- Smart Suggestions: AI-generated rename proposals for functions and variables

I use them daily to score significant productivity gains in my RE day job as well as on personal projects.

GhidrAssist and GhidrAssistMCP LLM plugins reached v1.0

After just over a year of steady progress, my Ghidra LLM plugins GhidrAssist and GhidrAssistMCP both recently passed version 1.0. Not only, do these enable LLM helpers for common reverse engineering tasks, but fully automated reverse engineering of complex binaries is now on the table. This is a gdbinit-style plugin for gdb that exposes the gdb interface via MCP. Unlike other implementations, it runs as a native gdb plugin and exposes the entirety of the gdb interface - as opposed to a small subset of commands - to the LLM.

Thanks for the interest. I wrote GhidrAssistMCP and the original GhidrAssist plugin which work hand-in-hand because I find they improve my RE workflow. They're not immune from hallucinations because the underlying models are not. However, they are fairly rare and I have had very reliable results with both Claude and ChatGPT. When used together, GhidrAssist+GhidrAssistMCP have been able to do some impressive analysis tasks.

If you're just getting back in the saddle, you might want to give both a try. In particular, GhidrAssist's "Explain Function" tool is really helpful at quickly summarizing code and reducing the mental overhead of making sense of large binaries.
