I wonder if this screen + mouse + keyboard (+ camera + speaker + mic) interface is really the right level of abstraction to model a “digital entity”
Sure, you can do everything a human can, but it also seems VERY inefficient
As an alternative, maybe you could just do network in/out?

Hey folks,
Naming companies is hard. At Monzo we had to change the original name after an annoying trademark dispute.
So we launched a fun little side project that sells cheap .com domains that would make good startup names.
They are unique, short, easy to say and don't mean anything, so you can fill them with meaning - just like Google or Twilio did.
You can check it out here: https://garple.com
I hope it's useful!

How does this create consistent characters between frames?
My understanding was that this is very hard to do reliably without dreambooth style fine tuning, which is expensive and slow

What a great appointment!
I've had one brief interaction with Gary a long time ago, and he's been a role model ever since
I had a difference in opinion with my cofounder and wanted to leave the startup we'd founded, even if it meant leaving the YC program (which I adored), and would likely lose my visa to stay in the US. Seeing how distressed I was, Gary took me aside somehow simultaneously made me feel heard, but also told me that it's up to me to come back stronger from this moment.
It made all the difference to me, and I've thought back to that moment many times in the years to come.

I'm originally from Germany and moved to San Francisco three years ago, when I was 21. People are often surprised that I don't have a strong German accent and I jokingly say that it's because I watched all 10 seasons of Friends a few times in a row. It's a joke, but I'm convinced it has a lot to do with it.
There's an interview with Max Levchin somewhere in which he says that he watched some TV show over and over and repeated everything that was said in order to rebrand himself as a midwesterner after he moved to the US. His English is really good, too.

Most of these hacks (and the comments in this post) miss a crucial point about standing desks. They are supposed to be ergonomic. [1]
Putting your laptop on a bunch of boxes puts a lot of strain on your arms. Of course this also doesn't work if you have a big display on your desk.
I'd be interested in hacking a standing desk that is
1) ergonomic
2) offers support for both laptops and big displays
3) has a usable keyboard drawer for both standing and sitting position
If all else fails we'll just make a living selling desks like that. (and no, geekdesk does not meet all requirements)
[1] http://www.infologix.com/images/usr/ergonomic-computer-cart....

I've been living in the Bay Area (in Berkeley) on a J-1 research visa for half a year, fell in love with the startup community and now I need to extend my stay. As a "researcher" at UC Berkeley I was able to work on my own projects and engage in the nearby startup scene without problems.
Now that I need to find a legit job allowing me to stay in the U.S., I'm afraid that I will not be able to work on my own projects as much anymore. In Germany I used to work as a freelance consultant. Is it possible to get a Visa doing freelance work? Or part-time work?
Another question is what kind of Visa I can get? Apparently regular H1-B working Visas are handed out only in April, so I'm out of luck. Is it easier to get internship Visas?
The next-best thing to working on my own projects would be to work for an early stage startup (the earlier, the better). Is it even possible/economical/easy for a small startup to acquire a working Visa for me?
I should talk to a lawyer but I figured that HN is more likely to provide me with the "dirty" tricks of immigration ;)

A German startup is doing this, too: http://www.captchaad.com/
IIRC Microsoft even tried to patent this. The article's claim that only one company is working "as the middleman between advertisers and webmasters in order to display CAPTCHA ads" seems slightly exaggerated ;)
