Wait - so you are saying that information on the public internet isn’t public? Man, I wish people would remember the origin of the web and the entire reason it exists. If you don’t want information public, protect it - otherwise, I say it’s fair game.

I live in a ski town, and while I agree with you on the major problems that exist (here, too), _some_ of the 'living in your car in the alley' is the ski-bum ethos and viewed as a right of passage. Live to ski!

Honestly, I am not even sure _how_ they would fix the system(s) they complain most about? Assume Yann is wrong and Timnit is right, what is the proposal for fixing the bias that somehow is inherent in the system?

She says 'let us lead and you follow' -- sure...where? What are we concretely doing about the "in-built bias" problem?

As a hunter in Wyoming and a tech guy, this is _the_ off-pavement GPS/mapping platform. If you haven't heard of them, it's because you and their target customers don't intersect. They have a ton of customers and a growing fan-base.

ALPR is not manual or sustained. It's a one-time photo of a vehicle at a specific location & time.

The DPPA [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driver%27s_Privacy_Protection_...] already restricts who has the ability to convert from plate to actual personal information.
