Haven’t looked at this yet but have been amazed at rsync for a similar task. Used it to deploy and maintain a retail digital experience across a few dozen stores more than a decade ago and it was great. Use it for small home projects now.

Thank you for this nuanced, probably-took-more-than-5-seconds research. What is difficult to stomach is that level-headed people will look beyond the clickbait to frequently find a logical explanation that makes sense...but a large number of people will just assume the headline is true and parrot it.

Feel like this especially true in design systems where they went as far as a few dozen atoms but did not progress to molecules or components (insert corollary term here). This exposes a lack of understanding the business and user needs.

My favorite part about design systems is when they are created in a vacuum devoid of either content strategy or technology/engineering so they look dope af but solve nothing for activation or delivery teams.

As much as I like my Internet free as in beer, I do think that in order to transition from ad-supported content platforms, some form of micropayment or subscription model works best to support creators and bastions of intelligent discourse. I don't mind chipping in for content, (ie independent reporters on substack, local NPR station, Wikipedia), the value exchange is positive for me.

Identity <> Authentication <> Authority
I deal with this in my industry (telecommunications). Just because you've provided proof of identity (eg your phone number, account number), there are still things you're not allowed to do until you've authenticated your identity--and the system determines your authority, to perform an action. This is accomplished through a password, a PIN, etc.
On a phone, it's an interesting shift because with a PIN, we essentially bypassed the need for identity and used only a password; regardless of who you are, you can get in if you have the right key.
With the move to identity being sufficient to unlock a device, we're saying that just on the basis of identity, the authority that used to come with a password (sans identity) can be granted. It's a 180 degree turn.
I don't see a way on my iPhone 6s to require both Touch ID and PIN; it's one or the other. Very few interactions require both, i.e. after a restart it requires the PIN before Touch ID will work.
edit: to clarify the difference

I can second the recommendation of Forbidden Island. Got it for a 9yr old and it has been a big hit with the kids. The cooperative goal was a huge draw for me -- "we" win the game together, no one person can win. The kids are competitive enough, so having something like this was a great way to bring them together.

Completely agree. I'd love a laptop that performed as well as the 2012 MBP I lug around, with updated ports, less weight, and more RAM. I don't need a touchscreen function row. I don't want Windows, dropping Linux on an Asus or HP mid- or high-end laptop might suffice but there are enough stories about malfunctioning wifi or sound to ward me away from that.
