It’s a company that turns plants into meat like substance. There is no plant that grows like this, of course it has to be processed to get from its original form to the new form.
Likewise, not all processing is bad. Cooking food is a form of processing and just makes the nutrients much more easy to digest.

Yeah Gitlab is a pig, but that’s what I meant with you can throw hardware at the problem. I’ve been meaning to check out Codeberg for personal project hosting since it seems to address the shortcomings of gitea

Gitea scales really badly with large repos in my experience. Gitlab works a lot better mostly because you can just throw more hardware at it. This is with a pretty large git repo and a lot of daily commits.

RenderDoc is mostly a frame debugger, although it does support stepping through shaders as well which can be super useful. But for real performance analysis I would use PIX if you target D3D12 or RGP and Nsight for Vulkan. I'm at a Vulkan and Metal only shop and I wish I could use PIX for my every day work, since it also has excellent support for Intel GPUs.

Yes, planes are designed to be able to take off with a lost engine. Usually this will extend the roll a bit because the speeds are different for engine out operations. This isn't the first MD-11 with an engine out take off, 5 years ago a FedEx MD-11 took off with a failure in the left engine[1]. Slightly different case, obviously, but it's certainly something that is accounted for when designing planes.
[1] https://www.avherald.com/h?article=4dfd50b9&opt=0%20

The damage on the ground is scary to look at. I think the only silver lining here is that it was "just" a sparser industrial area and there weren't any homes. I'm really curious about what the investigation will reveal in a few months. This doesn't look like a "regular" engine fire from a bird strike or so, you would normally expect the flames to come out the back and not over the wing. And at least in theory the MD-11 should be flyable with just two engines, although flames on a wing is probably "really really bad" just by itself already. Too early to speculate about what happened though.

That's not how any of this is sold though. Google did a lot of fundamental research quite publicly in this space for many years, and people were generally quite favourable of this and didn't ask to see insane revenue from it (yet). But Microsoft is not doing that, not even by proxy of funding OpenAI. They are selling it as the greatest business thing ever, so where are the numbers to back that?

The resources are there in crazy abundance. But we will never get to them, the scale of the universe is unfathomable. Even at the speed of causality, human lifespans are simply not a match to the distances involved. And that implies we can somehow accelerate any real amounts of mass to those kinds of speeds which is already a non starter.
Our species was born on this rock and it will perish on this rock. And it will have no impact on anything even within our star system, let alone this galaxy.
The sentiment that the universe is our home is a nice one, but it’s not true at all. Existential crisis is the only reasonable thing here, at least from the lens of human existence.
