i would add, "5. Ask questions." if you struggle to make conversation, find one thing about the person and ask them about it. how did they decide to do what they do for a living? what about that hat made them buy it?

i just played with it a bit and it's kind of awesome! It takes like 5 min to get the hang of it. I didn't notice until I came back here about publishing completed maps, that's great too. Passed along to my (many) game playing friends. If you decided to open source it I would join on for sure.
Why is the hallway tool called "snap to grid"? That was the one I couldn't figure out how to get back to because it's a non-intuitive name imo. When I went back in just now and restarted doodling, I saw that was the tool highlighted.
Also, the way the wall tool works is harder to use than the way the "hallway" aka "snap to grid" tool works, imo the latter is more intuitive.
Just some thoughts! Awesome work!

Last Week Tonight just did a piece about it. They described the circuitous, torturous route the FCC site put into place to hinder consumer feedback. LWT announced they have purchased the domain >>> gofccyourself.com <<< to take you right to the FCC page you need to get to. Go to gofccyourself.com and comment. Long form is better. Well written is better. Well reasoned is better. But any comments are (one hopes) better than nothing. Get involved!

Then why do they put people through those extreme paces? If you have the chops to get through the Google interview process, you are not "just another developer." If I were enough of a star to get through the process, got hired, and then was put to work maintaining some internal Java tool, I'd be pretty pissed off.

As a backer of Linda Liukas's Kickstarter for her book Hello Ruby, "a children’s book that teaches programming fundamentals through stories and kid-friendly activities," I have been getting updates on her progress. I recently received her 18th. This one details her process over the past year as she has built the book. It's fascinating and (not surprisingly) delightful. I really liked how much she learned from multiple iterations over a single drawing, and from her editor. I can't wait until the book is released.

They are working in lots of other locations besides just Mozambique. They are also good at sniffing out whether a sputum sample is positive for TB! Check out their website. I've been giving them money for several years now. They were featured in an article in the NYTimes (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/17/opinion/17kristof.html), a list of different ideas for Father's Day gifts. My dad got a kick out of it.

I never understood why my dad got sensitive about letting people know he was 50 and over until I got there and found myself working side by side with mostly people under 30. Now I'm careful not to let anybody know when I graduated from college or how old I am. I know I am more expensive than a lot of them. If I were in the shoes of management I would be looking hard at more expensive employees and assessing whether they were worth it. I interviewed at a place I'd have liked to make a move to, recently, but they passed and I have to wonder if their decision was to do with my being older and/or asking for too much money.
Emotionally, it's definitely harder to get excited about the new next hot thing. I'm not sure there's a lot more in coding that I am super excited about. I could see getting out of development. I'd be interested in getting into a related discipline, so if anybody has specific suggestions about that I'd love to hear them.
