Maybe they're referring to defederation? It's quite common on Mastodon as I understand it, due to disagreements on things like moderation between server operators.

Even if it's not inevitable, if your employer tells you "use AI or get fired", well, take your pick. A lot of the resentment I see is a result of those sorts of mandates.

Among other manufacturers Spigen has cases that protect the hinge. I've owned a foldable for 3 years and never had anything get into the hinge thanks to that, though some amount of dust did gather inside the hinge cover over time.

But I would be nervous about spending that much on a phone if you expect to be dropping it a lot, honestly.

You would need some sort of hardware serial number system for PCs and a whole security infrastructure to verify that the serial number being used for the unlock wasn't faked. Then you could do per-PC unlocks. I'm not aware of anything like that being widespread back in the Quake days, though these days every computing device you own probably has a unique ID burned into ROM somewhere.

I experienced this periodically on my gmail and always assumed that it was just a typo on the part of the sender, adding a period where there shouldn't be one. But there were cases that kind of defied plausibility, like when a recruiter (sharing my name but not my gmail address) sent out a mass cold email and I got the angry replies. I never figured out how that one happened, maybe they misconfigured their mailer software's replyto?

I never once considered that a gmail bug or intentional design decision could be at work there. TIL that they decided to cut down on the confusion by normalizing addresses.

This ignores the time cost of having to find the right private company to file your taxes (everyone loves price shopping!) and manually funnel all your data into it, data the government probably already has. Tax prep costs me at least an entire day of my time every year.

P.S. When citing that you had AI do a basic analysis of something, specifying what you analyzed and which AI you used would be nice so other people can reproduce it or dig deeper.

The funding climate for indie games is the worst it's been in a long time and it's been bad for over a year. Lots of publishers have stopped signing deals or are only funding small amounts with really bad terms.

The imbalance is profound. I once tried to find a lawyer who could handle getting accommodations for a visually impaired person I knew. In practice, we probably just needed them to draft a sufficiently stern letter notifying the operator of their responsibilities under the ADA and it would have eventually gotten handled.

I spent a while trying to find law firms that specialized in this. If you do this kind of search 99% of the results are for law firms that specialize instead in defending companies against ADA suits and helping them evade their responsibilities.

I eventually was able to find exactly one law firm via contacting the bar. They weren't interested in talking to me - they said the person with the disability would need to contact them directly and pay out of their own pocket.

Years later that website still isn't accessible.

If you're concerned about this, as a defense-in-depth measure you should also avoid using AI inside of browser tabs containing sensitive information. i.e. typing a prompt into Gemini inside your gmail tab could potentially exfiltrate data from your mail since your mail is accessible to any JS running inside that tab (or accessible to Gemini most likely, for that matter).

If you hand me two sheets of paper, one of them containing instructions and another containing data, I'll have a pretty easy time keeping them separate, and I think most humans wouldn't struggle with that problem either.

I don't think this is true? I remember successfully using OpenGL and Direct3D acceleration in windowed mode on 9x devices.

Are you thinking of the add-on 3D accelerator cards that did VGA pass-through from your 2D accelerator? It might've been true for them...

I don't think this is strictly true, not only are there new approaches to modeling like mudbox and such, but the nature of the assets people are creating is meaningfully different in 2026 than it was in 1995. The polycounts are orders of magnitude higher, the way you texture and shade the models is different, etc.

And then the actual hardware being used to render the finished assets is very different - it's much faster, it has dedicated acceleration for rasterization and ray/path tracing, etc. Fewer compromises are necessary to deliver your 3D assets to the viewer than back in 1995 and it's cheaper to deliver them.

It's true that a lot of the fundamentals haven't changed though. I'm not sure that's a bad thing.

My personal experience was that I saw AI adopters opening and merging more PRs but I also spent more of my day reviewing PRs than I did in the past, in order to keep up with the flood of new stuff. Reconcile that with MSFT's repeated layoffs however you like.

Read up on herd immunity. The problem isn't specifically 'foreigners' but the general question of whether enough people are vaccinated to prevent the disease from roaring back when it inevitably - it is not possible to stop people from bringing diseases into the country - reoccurs.
