I'd slightly rephrase the title to "everyone should know when SIMD didn't happen." Modern compliers are extremely good at vectorization until they suddenly aren't, an they'll often fall back to scalar code because if assumptions or a single-data dependent branch. Learning to check the compliers optimization reports is arguably more valuable.

The first question that comes to mind is reverse causation (probably because I'm a debater). Is increased TV viewing contributing to the brain differences, or are people with say preexisting reduced brain volume simply more likely to engage in activities like this? Essentially, there may be more to this than surface level.

Something that never gets old is Rob Pike's framing: concurrency is about structuring a program, while parallelism is about the execution. Plenty of concurrent programs never run in parallel and there are plenty of parallel programs that are poorly structured.

This is much harder problem than most CPU emulators as IA-64 isn't really just another ISA. EPIC most significantly allows the RE which seems like the main implementation challenge. Does the emulator model the RSE or are there shortcuts for Windows compatibility? Also, which Windows model is booting?

I honestly think that this may have some benefit as the infinite scroll has made our attention spans incredibly short. Although, I'm sure people will find there way around it.
